Exporting work as a Jpeg file...

I wanted to export my work as a Jpeg file so I could email it to family members. Even when I DO select jpeg as the export format when I open the image on my desktop it starts up Photoshop! I just want it to open like all my other pictures do. I tried to send the image to my brother who does not have photoshop and he said he could not open the file on his computer.

What am I doing wrong in the export phase? Oh yea the image IS LAYERED and I was told that Jpeg doesn't allow layers or something like that.

The JPG opening in Photoshop on your computer is normal behavior. Assuming your brother is on a PC, have him right click the file and set the "Open with" to Windows Picture and Fax viewer. When you save an image using the JPG format the image is flattened.

The "Save for Web" feature is useful when you need to e-mail pics.
