Ok...

Officially throwing my hat in the ring.

http://frenchquarterfeatures.com/deadbeauty.jpg

I'll fancy the thread up later ...

... but I think this will be BY FAR the biggest thing I've ever done and hopefully the other elements will live
up to the production value.

I can't believe the money Eric put into this thing, it's huge (Thanks Dood)

Can't wait to unveil this one.

So. Trying not to give anything away for this one. Really any grabs would give too much away.
But here's some BTS, didn't want to show any sets or actors in costumes, etc. So its just me, the red, and some green screen baby.

Setting up ... mmmm .... Red.

And how come, that such a high class movie is shown in the DVXuser lovefest? :D

Barry_Green
01-31-2008, 06:44 PM
Well, depends on which "Cloverfield" we're talking about. The J.J. Abrams one was 1/8 shot on the HVX. I suspect the J. D. Stanley version will be 100% HVX.

And hey, even the J.J.Abrams version was a love story, so why wouldn't it be in lovefest? (although it might have exceeded our maximum running length by a tad so it might need to enter as "exhibition only".)

heheh thanks guys ... I don't want to build it up too much, but I think the production value just blows everything else I've done away, mostly thanks to Erik ... so its definitely a personal best there.

IMHO I feel like it's my best film too, also by a long shot. Hopefully others will at least like it to some degree as well, but that's really subjective. Like I said earlier I've taken some big risks, and hopefully it shows some growth rather than a backwards or lateral step.

I'm not trying to be overly critical and rude but...

This is the worst film ever. It is the dumbest, the most retarded, absolutely atrocious and completely horrible film I've ever seen in my life. What the hell were you thinking dumbass?

I'm trying to be constructive give you props that you actually got off of your Dunder and Miffilin and actually went out and made a film – we all know what an achievement that is and it warrants respect, lots of it.

But still, I can acurately say that this is the worst, dumbest film I've ever seen.

It sucked. Why? I don't know. Anyone?

I don't know how you can fix it. I can't say where you went wrong, or what exactly is wrong or why.

Once again, there is nothing I can say against the VFX, acting, directing or cinematography or music. They are down pat; well conceived, well executed.

But the writing (the most important aspect of "true" film) is just not there. Characters are act on a whim with no real reason or thought put into them; they exist ONLY to drive the story (which in itself was lacking) onward. The dialog was also problematic. The attempt at social commentary on the mistreatment of Germans was poorly placed, came off as trite, lacking the exigencies necessary to facilitate itself in such a serious work of erudite intellectual high-brow modern art cinema.

Once again, Jack, you have prodigious skills but debilitated writing abilities.

Sometimes it's difficult to get extra smarty-pants words there, so I'll often have to reference the OED.

Ah thanks, I've used the online thesaurus of course. Guess I gotta invest in an Oxford English Dictionary. They're so expensive. But they definitely impress chicks when they see it on the coffee table.

Stefan,

You are just terribly, terribly, terribly wrong. Notice that I wrote terribly a total of three times to add emphasis. The writing in this film was probably the best I have ever seen out of anything in Holly, or Baliwood. I don't think anything will be able to compete in years to come. The bar has been raised my friend. Your perception is so off I think you need to give up whatever in life you are trying to do. If that's being a janitor, or a rocket scientist... you are just so universally negative it is a travesty.

Ok, maybe I went a little overboard Stefan. I am sorry. I will not edit my post. I said what I felt at the time.

:)

I had a bit of an advanced warning about this one as Jack knows.

BTW, you should have called it dead sexy!

Good luck with the feature!

I see some tension building in this thread, and I just want to head it off at the pass. I think the one thing we can all agree on is just how fucking sexy the lead is.

Please, let the sexiness unite us...

Easy. I know there is lot's of eye candy. But I don't want the flashier elements to overshadow the depth of this film or the meaningful social commentary on pre and post war Germany.

Jack, the biggest problem I have with your work is that you keep making ineligible films. Your use of copyrighted elements totally invalidates this film from the competition, and that's a shame. Now I'll have to find some other film to cast my vote for.

Very entertaining, well crafted, and well done. But ineligible. Maybe next time.

who can i write to get this nominated for an oscar for best lead in a short film?

Too bad there's no Academy best lead category for short films.

You will have to wait for the feature.

SPOILER ALERT.....>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

OMG, Jack!

I thought that I had the Hottest Lovefest Blonde in my film... until I saw Dead Beautiful!

Where do you find the talent?

I am just speechless by this entry and dumb-founded by your skills.

Speaking of skills.... it looks like (or should I say SOUNDS LIKE) Herman Witkam held off on all of the other films he scored to give you the best of all! Just incredible.

You have it all Jack...

Well done on all accounts!

Best,
Ted

Blaine, you should know by now, the key to directing is in the casting.

This was totally fun.

I loved the opening credits and music - who hasn't wanted to do something huge like that?

After this, I expect you to tackle a full musical. :)
