This is an unofficial, purely out of my own interest, poll to gather some opinions on what distribution methods people can handle and like to use to download/view DVX'Fests.
Please check *all* the delivery methods that you would (hypothetically) be happy & capable to use to download the fest entries.
Thanks!

Ok, it's unanimous. 100% of voters are in favor of one large zipped file. :)
Good poll, Mikko.

100% of the voters arn't very flexible either.
Plese choose and all methods that you'd be happy using. - Not just the preferance!

I missed that. I'm definitely flexible. :) I think several of your options are good - I just noted my preference... Or rather, what I thought might be most convenient for everyone. (Hypothetically, I could be happy with any of the options.)
Individual downloads as some have noted can be a pain...and might turn people off of downloading every entry. Same goes for ftp.
Any kind of package download would be great, IMO. Whether it's all of them or several chunks. Bittorrent might work but it's nowhere near as accessible as downloading a zipped file. Lot of folks still have trouble with torrrents and the download times might be all over the map.
Streaming/DVD are neat ideas but both would be experimental and I don't think anyone here has the patience for a brand new system to be put in place. :) Would definitely be cool as supplements to the downloads though.
We want as many people as possible to watch as many movies as they can, so the more convenience and the fewer barriers the better.
At least with 2 or 3 zip files people with ghetto internet (like myself) can watch a few movies while waiting for the other zips to download.
oh poo - I didn't know till after I voted, we could select more than one.
otherwise i would have added...
Web download - One huge [>1GB!] (.zip) file
&
Streaming / Online viewing (Eg: Flash, like YouTube)

We've had this discussion before. I still think ultimately the BEST way would be some online player, like that high-res youtube site people have been putting their work on. Maybe it's a divx site? With HTTP download as an alternate, in case people want to take the films with them.
I agree with someone above that the biggest downer is not being able to watch the films full res.
I have a friend writing server-side encoding software right now, so I have to think there is some more out there.
In addition, the online player would allow us to embed the movies in each thread. Which might be kind of cool.

I think it depends on the internet connection speed. I like the idea of an on-line viewer as long as it could be viewed in multiple resolutions. Like when you view trailers on-line.
I'm luck to have a real high speed internet connection and can download all of the files individually within 15 - 30 minutes. I wish there were a way to select all of the individual files and download the list, but I wouldn't want one big file that has to be 'un-zipped'.

I added those to the poll. Thanks for your feedback :) (And thanks everyone! )

Personally, I'd rather have 1 giant download. Just get them all at once, go for a walk, come back and watch them all. Plus with torrent files you can set priorities so you can download anything you really want to see fast on "high priority".

Big download's probably best. That'll force me to actually watch all of them.

1 big download would be very convenient.

I don't care how they come to me, but I want to be able to say "download this" and walk away for an hour, come back and they are all there. The current system forces you to sit at your computer for a good while, making me disinterested.
