View Full Version : Where's my audio?

Ok, maybe I'm missing something but after a recent shoot (720 30PN) I do not see my Ch. 1 audio that was recorded with a wireless mic. on my Avid Xpress 5.7. timeline. What I do see is two channels (1 and 2) of what sounds like the internal camera mic. Now here's the weird part: I can hear the wireless audio on my clips through the camera during playback. I even connected the two analog RCA outs to a monitor and I hear ch. 1 audio perfectly.
So knowing the audio is there, I found the MXF file of the clip in question, and deleted the other 3 associated audio files. I then deleted the database files and started avid again. Presto--the wireless audio was there.
What am I doing wrong--I'm relatively new to this new format.
Thanks! Craig
Since the sounds seems to work in the camera, I would suggest posting this question in the Avid forum.

I had a similar problem with 720 30pn. Except it did not record audio at all. I check all audio setting and they were ok. I then switch to 720 30p and the audio was back. I though this was strange because I have shot in 720 30pn may times and always had audio. I tried to go back to 720 30 pn on the day of the shot but no audio. The next day I got my manual out and read as my posts as possible to try to fix the problem. Yet I found nothing. Then i went back to the camera and started checking and everything was ok. I did not change any settings. I'm wondering if there is a software problem. I will most likely post this problem also.
Were you able to fix yours.

Did you happen to have a VFR at something other than 30?

Looks like my problem was frame rate. I was in film mode and rate was set to DEFAULT in which most likely was 24.
thanks

The scene file could not have been set to DEFAULT at that time or the camera would have recorded sound.

"No audio is recorded when using variable frame rate recording in 720p "N" modes." (Barry Green said that). If you're recording in 720p/30pN and using a frame rate other than 30 fps, you will not be able to record audio (same goes for 720p/24pN shot at other than 24 fps).
