Shot 1080pA. Going to be projected 4K. They want to play with different options including exporting using Apple ProRes.

My question is ---my FCP sequence says it's 1280x1080....which there is not ProRes output for (basically 1920 or lower than 1280). The whole 1280 thing has confused me this whole time but I've gleefully been ignorant the past two months.

can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Thanks

Go to audio/video settings. Click on sequence preset, go to duplicate on a prores 1080p setting, edit that setting and make sure you make the resolution 1920x1080 HQ full raster (with 10-bit decoding) Then check off the sequence to put it in use and open up a new sequence. You can also edit at 3.8k resolution with prores if you want.

Hey Hunter. Thanks for replying.
Still a little unclear. The camera shoots at 1280x1080, right? Or is it just my sequence that is wrong? The setting (if I do what you suggest) is set to 1920x1080. Do I change the aspect ration to Custom 16:9 (otherwise it's1080i - so my question is how do I change it to 1080p) and then also change the pixel aspect ratio?
Thanks for the help

The camera scans at 1080p, processed and then compressed into dvcprohd1080i (which is 1280x1080 anamorphic)

You want a custom set-up, make sure the pixels are square and you are at full-raster 1920 x1080 setting in with 24p. When you click your footage to drag into the sequence, fcp will say "do you want to change the sequence to match your footage?" Tell it no and blam! 1920x1080p.

I think I gotcha. The only thing is that when I do this it seems fine. But when I check the sequence settings the drop down under Aspect Ratio returns to 1080iHDTV instead of custom every time I try and change it....

And is it even 24p or 23.976?

You rock

Those are my settings. On the second menu, I click on render all with high-precision YUV.

I am still not 100% sure about this but:

23.98p is for use when you shoot inside of a codec that records @ 59.94hertz (60i)

24p is from strait 24p matierial (or converted to 24p)

I use 23.98 for everything but I could be in error?
