How big is the french market in Canada? If I only released in English how would that effect me?

That's a big question. I couldn't immediately find any stats but I'm sure they're out there. Stats Canada would be a good source maybe.
Here's a link for lack of anything else.
You should find enough ideas within the link of where else to research, e.g TeleFilm Canada.

And I didn't even attempt to read this one...

The majority of French is on the East Coast - Ottawa East. So that's a little of Eastern Ontario, Obvioulsy Quebec and New Brunswick. Not very much French being spoken West of Ottawa (although I'm sure there is obviously some along the way).
Wikipedia says that 85% of all French speaking Canadian reside in Quebec.

Okay, thanks for the info guys.... I'm trying to figure out if I should pre-sell the French Canadian rights seperately or keep them together with the Candian rights as a whole (I'm going with Lions Gate for US and Englsih Canada after we're done filming.). Now is there a difference between the French spoken in canada and in france? I'm leaning towards selling the french speaking rights for Canada and France to one distributor.
It's the same french. Just different accent.

//edit: late post:
//I've worked with both years ago and I believe as stated above its just a dialect thing.
Like US English & British English. But check for sure.
Yeah its interesting. The French appear to have the Canadian market nailed down, which is not surprising if you grew up in Canada watching French movies like I did. Alot of old classics there. I almost want to start a thread just for us old timers. (Remember Red Red?)
It's apparent Quebec strongly supports international films. What is it?..20:4 last I read...
So that's something to recognize and appreciate.

Has anyone heard of Barna-Alper Releasing? If so, do you know how reliable they are? Do they do what they say they will?

The dialect in Quebec is totally different than Parisian French. The language is the same but Quebecois French is more casual and definitely has its own distinct dialect. I understand both English and French.
