FCP backup recording

Is it possible to use a mac to do direct recording (ie 'backup recording' in the manual) in Final Cut Pro?

You can go directly into FCP fairly easily. Match the sequence settings in FCP with the cam for every format except pNative.

Set the log and capture to non controllable device and hit capture now.

I have been wondering whether there is any reason that there is not a signal out through firewire when recording 24pn, other than the fact that Panasonic has disabled it. Is there some actual physical reason that 24pn can't be sent out through firewire? Would it be possible to enable this through a firmware upgrade to the HVX? I would like to be able to use my laptop as a monitor while recording 24pn to P2.
