Hello everybody.
I hope anybody can help me. Maybe thatīs even an old problem...
Weīve shot o the HPX 500. We did 4 films. 2 were cut on FCP and were shot in 1080i/24pA. One was shot in 1080i/25p, edited on Avid without any Problem. Today I got a call from the PostPro Supervisor that they canīt work with 1080i/24p in Avid. He said he only has the 59.94i hz
-Stream, but he canīt extract the 24p in the pulldown. What can be the problem here? Is it possible that AVid does the normal 2:3 Pulldown or must the pull-down be down with an external software? I dontīknow exactly, because everywhere I try to explore there is written: "If you use Avid - use 24p, there is no 24pA Support"...

Any advices?

Thanx

The problem is Avid is about two years behind the times -- they don't support 1080/24p pulldown removal. They only support 1080/60i -- so if you shoot 1080/24p DVCPRO-HD (in either mode, 24p or 24pA) you can only edit it on Avid as 1080/60i.

One would hope that since every other NLE supports on-the-fly 24pA pulldown removal, Avid will finally achieve parity in their next version.

Until then, you really don't have a choice -- if you want to use Avid, you're going to have to edit it as 60i.

(unless, of course, I'm totally wrong and this issue has already been addressed)!

Ok. Thanks for your help. Thatīs what I want to know. Or should I say: thatīs the fact I donīt want to hear :Drogar-Shock(DBG):
I canīt believe that the leading company in NLE-Systems doesnīt support this. So we will try another solution - we canīt wait until the big company take pity on us...with the nxet version.
What do you think, is Raylight MXFX a good solution for this problem?

barry is indeed correct - and it is SUCH a shame.

i think you can edit in avid at 60i and then export and bring it into another tool to remove the pulldown on the final edit

Raylight MXFX will remove the pulldown and convert to 1080/24P native without recompression. It was developed in cooperation with Avid specifically for this sort of problem.

It's $195. see http://dvfilm.com/MXFX

I used to be a big fan of Avid (except for their tech support and pricing, which was egregiously arrogant). One couldn't do a pro project without going Avid.

Now Avid sucks the big one. They've fallen behind and can't catch up. Their stock value is spiraling down.

Karma.
