Hi
Finally made the upgrade(HVX200) after shooting for 3 years on a DVX100a. I just shot in an environment that has descent lighting and when I took the HVX there it seemed like there wasnt enough light in the room. So, does the HVX need more light or is it the LCD a little on the dark side?? I havent had time to load the footage into final cut to play around with color grading.
Thanks

The hvx has more pixels on the same size ccd making it less sensitive. most all similar hd cams suffer from this.

Yes, definitely. When I shot a Christmas boat parade at night last month, the HXV spent the night in the safe and the DVX came out to play.

the canon hdv works realy well in low light bud sd is still better.

The nighttime boat parade footage came out great, but I have to say ....
... going back to tape is HELL!!!!
P2 RULES!

I have one more question. How does the latitude on the HVX (HD) compare to the DVX (SD)?

HVX has about 1 stop more latitude.

I thankfully kept my DVX when I bought my HVX. I still shoot an occasional project with the DVX when corporate clients request DV. I still love shooting with my DVX, it's a great little cam. Oh yeah, you are right, going back to tape after two years shooting P2 is very weird. Oh yeah, pre-roll? Oh yeah, missing all of those shots because the tape takes so long to get going?
But my DVX still has a soft spot in my heart. This camera made me so much money!

Oh yeah and the DVX is so light and easy to go handheld after using the HVX!

I am going to be a new user to the whole DVX HVX Line I understand the ccd's are the same size on the HVX so, when you shoot DV is the low light equivalent to that of DV? I have had the horrors of HDV in low light.

HVX has the same size CCDs but they are higher resolution. Higher resolution = smaller pixels = less sensitivity.

I understand that but specifically when shooting in DV the resolution would be smaller so would it perform similar to DV cameras. Sorry If I sound like a idiot.

The HVX still uses all the pixels on the chip no matter what mode you are recording in.

HVX has about 1 stop more latitude.
hi there!
Barry, let me ask you something.. if it has less sensitivity wouldn't the latitude decrease as well?
am I missing something or the latitude has nothing to do with sensitivity?
doesn't the latitude depends on dynamic range (determined by sensitivity)?
PS.: just found this discussion: http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00Ddj4&tag=
still havent's read

1 stop less sensitive, 1 stop more latitude. Latitude is unrelated to sensitivity.
