Hi all:
I have been thinking about purchasing the Letus35 Support Rod setup and I am wondering...
1. Does anyone have any photos of their rig with the Letus mounted in the high position? (camera in the low position, like the Zacuto rigs?) All of the rig photos on the LetusDirect and AdapterPlace websites only show the Letus in the low position with a Canon XL1/2 mounted high, I want to see what it looks like in the opposite position.
2. How about some feedback? Is anyone happy or unhappy with the Letus35 Support Rod System?
Thanks!
Dan

So how about some of you Letus35 support owners on the other thread posting some pics? Doesn't anyone have their camera mounted low with the Letus up high???

I just got the system and took some pics. I'll try to upload it later tonight.
Right now I'm mounting the A1 and the Extreme at the highest position because if I mounted it lower there is not enough clearance to slide the rod system into my 516 head.
Having to adjust most of the system with a hex key is an inconvenience, and there is one handle on the rod that I couldn't figure out the purpose of, it doesn't seem to do anything if I tighten or loosen it. Otherwise it's a solid support system and visually striking as well. I love the sleek silver QR plate.

Hi Jade:
Thanks for the input. Some pix with closeups would be much appreciated.

i got the system today and i just put it all together, le, rods, indifocus pro. see the pics below. overall i am pleased but the risers are not marked so its hard to be sure they are the same height and when not all the way up. also they prevent how you can attach to your tripod. and it means the unit cant be sat on a flat surface. also, there we no instructions or anything in the box. everything feels solid but you do need the hex key. the reall bummer for me is that unless you raise it all the way up it wont sit flat. makes getting a pelican for it tough. also get the longer rails plus extensions as the shorter ones with the extension will barely get me to a mattebox with my 85mm.

Thanks for taking the time to post those!
So there was no issue with fitting your follow focus onto those rods? There have been other reports that the rods that Letus is shipping are not exactly 15mm and that the Red Rock Follow Focus will not fit onto the Letus rods.
Thanks,
Dan

that thing looks like it would hurt to throw over your shoulder if you had to do something hand held real quick. is it possible not to have those risers sink so far down? does that make any sense what i'm saying here?

Dan even if the rail diameter was off a little, as some have reported, it wouldnt prevent use with the Indifocuspro because it isnt a slide on and tighten kind of attachment. The bottom and top later are seperate and they clamp down on the rails, so I'd imagine a nonstandard rail size should still work with it.

Hi Arrik:
Okay, that makes sense. Unfortunately the Red Rock has holes that are basically 15mm. I saw in the thread that Hien told someone that a batch of mis-sized rails were sent out and that they are handling it.
I wrote to Letus Direct to inquire about all of this. Hopefully they have it all handled.
Thanks,
Dan

I think that he has to have it at that height so that his follow focus can work. Yes, this would not be a good setup to throw on your shoulders unless you have masochistic tendencies!

This is the setup i find useful. (i wanna use the mattebox) Some handles and a shoulderpad is on the way. I think the letus rod are extremely solid.

Ignore the crappy quality of the image. This is an early test shot for a new batch of images going up on the site. Exposure was way off but I wanted to get something up here showing the Letus35 rods length options. This is a 30cm + 15cm + 15cm setup which will give you an idea of what the different lengths offer in front of the Extreme on cameras around the size of the Canon XH-A1. A 30cm + 15cm will work for most. If you have a lot of long lenses and still need a matte box, then a 45cm + 15cm is a good way to go.

Hi Fabulous:
1. What kind of monitor arm is that?
2. Which monitor is that? Are you happy with it?
3. Did you ever consider mounting your camera low and putting the Letus Extreme up high instead? It says on the website that you can mount this way but I have yet to find anybody who has set their setup up this way. Wonder why?
Thanks,
Dan

I will post a pic of the camera low / adapter high setup once we get our current product photo shoot wrapped up. If there are any other specific close-up type pictures you would be interested in seeing, let me know.

I too am interested in seeing the camera low lens high setup! I think this is the best way to set up your rig for a lower center of gravity and lower inertia trying to rip your rig apart when panning. I don't mean that it might break of in any way but keeping everything lined up and limiting the stress on multiple points of concern are a plus on top of possible better operating from the center of gravity being lower.

Hi! Its a Noga arm, very good.
The monitor is a Nikan HD8000. Also very happy with it.
The reason i have the LEX mounted the way i do is the mattebox. I dont want a riser in front, its front heavy as it is. Also i dont find it instable.
My lenses are the Zeiss 25mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4 and the 85mm 1.4.
The next project is a decent handheld solution and a good Follow focus

Do you guys at Letus have any ideas for shoulder mounting the camera with the risers going down so low? I like to pull my camera off the tripod when I see something and throw it on my shoulder real quick and that looks like it might hurt!

that rail system looks nice! too bad it isn't carbon ;)
but it is real nice to have a modular element to your rails!

That's what I want... the shoulder mount option.

Received mine last night.

Love them :)
ps: don't laugh at my mini tripod plate, it just suits the picture, being the "mini" and all :engel017:
As for shoulder mounting without risers penetrating trapezius muscle, 2 ideas
- raise the camera/adapter to highest point so it's flat on the base,
- or you could saw them down
... just make sure you won't regret the latter.

Dan, it's the Letus MINI.
Although it may sound and look a novelty (very cute i know),
it HAS THE SAME internals as the Letus EXTREME,
so it's lightweight and smaller body makes images just as delightful :)
just have the appropriate stepping rings and you can put it on any camera.

Hi Charles:
I thought I had seen images of the Letus Mini, I didn't know it looked like that and that it had a sort of square portion on it. Interesting. I have a Letus Extreme, I am sure you will be as happy with the Mini as I have been with the Extreme so far.

Here's my old set up - I used Cinevate rail blocks and a 5/8 piece of aluminum rod to raise a second set of Zacuto rails. Awesome set up. Really like the Cinevate rail block - will do just about anything configuration wise.
However, you'll notice that I have nothing to "mount" the Letus (snorkel side up) to the rods, so I had the Letus mount cradling the LEX and my 5/8 rod supporting the snorkel. Not the best way to do this but still for a $100 or so, good solution if you're not wanting to spend the Zacuto $$$
So I found out shortly afterwards that Letus had an extended riser (seen in the Zacuto configs) - with another Letus rail mount, it allows you to raise another set of rails and mount to the Letus at the same time. I LOVE this setup and it's only $50 not including a second set of rails...
I don't have any pics but will take some this week.
