I received an error stating "Verification Failed" during an offload. I am attempting another offload right now.
Why would verification fail?
When i checked the HDD property it atated that an operation was attempted with a failed verification. In other words, there is information on the hard drive I just dont know what it is (i have no way to check on my computer at the moment)
Also...the date of operation read "Jan 2000"!!!! very strange.

Well I'm not sure what exactly we're talking about, but HDDs generally transfer a bad bit once every few trillion or quadrillion, so you could just have gotten lucky. That's why there's verification.
Most likely this your first indication of failing hardware. If you're offloading from the cam to a firewire/USB device, this could also be related to a power problem.

I am offloading via firewire. The HDD is brand new. Anyways, I tried it again and it worked. I would like to delete the partition that failed but not sure how to do that.
Im just happy Ive been making DV copies of all my material. Something tells Im gonna need them. They wont be high def...but hey, at least my footage is secure unlike with these delicate HDD's. This offloading business is way too unpredictable for my taste

Personally I've had way more tape failures than disc failures... and zero P2 failures, so I'd rather get away from tape.
I'm glad it's working for you now, but I'd keep an eye out for other issues with that drive.

Chris, are you using a Mac or a Windows system?
