Question - we're shooting a ton (and I mean a TON) of short exercise videos for a fitness website that's going online soon. Delivery will be via flash FLV on the site, as well as downloadable iPod and Apple TV files.

Since FLV really softens things up a lot, I'm thinking of shooting with the "DETAIL" scene file from Barry's HVX book ... my thoughts are that the +7 will counteract the softness of the Flash video. But, I'm wondering what I'm giving up by going with extreme detail. I realize that I may be screwing myself if we wind up using the footage for distribution on Blu-Ray disc for example.

BTW we're shooting in 720/24pn for the sake of conserving drive space. Thanks!

It'll be much noisier; the more you crank up the detail the more visible the noise is. I'd say go for a good-looking final high-def image, and work on optimizing your FLV settings. Don't go for turbo-detail if you don't need it.

Barry, what would you suggest a max "noise-free" detail setting when using 35mm adapters? thanks.

Er... not really possible... sharpening the edges makes the noise more visible. You can try raising the coring to a level where it masks the edges on the noise. I haven't tried putting together such a scene file, but -- I mean, you don't really have to go crazy with the detail level with a good adapter. On my Letus, I only have to raise the detail level by about +2 to get good sharp images that match the sharpness of the naked lens.

Gotcha, thanks! I've been shooting at +3 detail so I'll stick with that.
