There was a snow storm here overnight so I decided to get off my butt and try out my Indislider (http://www.indifocus.com/products_indisliderpro.htm)...I (http://www.indifocus.com/products_indisliderpro.htm%29...I) love this thing. I have the 36" version...

Enjoy

Specifically, I have the same setup as you and am wondering what it is like with the camera out at one end of the rig? Do you worry about it tipping?
I wouldn't recommend using it without sandbags on each of the tripod legs.

How is the transition between regular tripod and indislider setup?
Not sure what you mean here but if you are asking me how long it takes to switch from tripod to IndiSlider, I'd say about 20 minutes. The tripod is fully functional with the IndiSlider still on. You can lock the head in place in the center so that all the functionality is still there. I'm still new to this so still experimenting. Not sure if the head can turn right and left when it's completely set up properly. I'll have to ask Tim at IndiFocus.

Is the weight an obstacle when working out in the field?
It's cumbersome to be sure but the results are really nice. It's like any piece of equipment...there's only so much you can carry at once and after that you need more people. You could get away with carrying this short distances but it depends on the terrain and strength of the person.

they indislider was really great, I still wish I had mine. For some unforseeable circumstance I don't have it anymore, and its a piece of gear I will def own again.

Lovely. This seems like an excellent solution for some small movement where setting up a dolly might be complicated, like a city street corner or such.

Sorry Dlsjecta, hope you do mind a little input on the product. Maybe you might have a couple suggestions? Couple of problems I encountered with the indislider 36:

1) Threading was off when mating to my 100mm ball. Turns out, it didnt match Bogen's threading exactly. Ended up with a threaded female end on the slider. Tim advised me on a temporary solution and is going to send me a new one with proper threading once I return the old one. Doesnt seem to be a problem with everyone, but it has been reported to Tim at least on one other occasion. Looks like hes identified and fixed the prob.

2) Design flaw? My tripod head (Manfrotto 516) cant turn left or right more than i'd say 45 degrees in each direction. Problem is the screws that sit on the corners of the sliding plate are elevated, and so are the screws on the corners of the underside of my 516. They hit each other and prevent the tripod from turning more than 45 degrees in any direction. If he made the screws flat or recessed the holes it would all be good in the hood.

3) I had problems with the camera being on one side of the slider. Even though I made sure I had the 100 ball base locked and slider balanced, at an extreme end it would sometimes slip and fall unbalanced. I'm not sure if this is a problem specifically with Bogen 100mm half ball, or if the weight is just too much for it.

Even if you spread your tripod out wide enuff to prevent tipping, I also definitely recommend sand bags on each leg as operating it without will cause a bouncing issue in your slide.

Also, something to note... while the tripod head is fully functional on the slider, tilts can be a little rough as there is a little give on the slider plate. This is most seen when tilting up and down. It can be minimized by tightening the locking knob in the lowest possible angle, as this does away with alot of the give. But its definitely a workaround that isnt fullproof.

Anyways, I havent given up on this product yet, and am hopefull to receive my replacement. I will be sending it back this monday and hopefully will get a proper unit on the second go around. Hopefully, Tim can incorporate some of the changes I mentioned.

For what its worth, it slides very smoothly. Just some set up and design issues that need to be addressed imo.

ugh...same type of snow here in Boston... rain/snow, stuck to everything. The trees are beautiful but dangerous as electricity is disrupted to many. Looks just like home Disjecta... nice effect the slider, very prolook

Love those shots - really makes me feel good about my purchase today. However, I haven't purchased an IndiSlider, there seems to be a lot of really great products coming out within the next couple years. Hard to keep up!

Highly technical question here. How could that kid wear short under those conditions?
Nice footage.

I worked on a commercial that the mostly use a very nice homemade slider.
I guess that a wide angle lens is how you get the most out of it.

Disjecta hi,

Beautiful shots....I'm thinking of buying the indislider myself...could you tell me what kind of tripod and head are you using...what's ball head diameter....and how well and easily it fits your indislider...

There's a bag of brass parts included with the Bogen 100mm adapter. Take the Bogen adapter apart and replace the inappropriately sized brass part with a different one until you find the right fit.

I couldn't recall any in the video, and my connection is playing up atm, but have you used the slider in the other direction?
ie: tracking in or out, as opposed to across. Just curious to see (and if it's mechanically possible) how it comes up?
Would be nice for closeups, and maybe another reason to opt for slider over dolly for convenience.

Also, how do you slide the slider? Is there a friction, and you 'tap' it like a tripod pan, or is it a wheel, etc..?

And is it just me, or does the Score feel very much like a piece that could be composed by a band playing at a soldiers post in a World War II epic.

Thanks OSB, I'll check that out.

I cant wait to get back out with this thing again. Seeing Dsjecta's footage is motivating.

Disjecta, seein' as how you used wide's on this piece and have been using wides, have you been experiencing any edge sharpness issues? It all seems pretty sharp to me, but I might be missing something.

I really want an indieSlider now. =\
