What's the price tag on this thing? I don't see the price on their site either.

You have to call them for the price.

We all know what that means :violin:

1. You call and ask for the price.

2. The guy tells you how great and outstanding that product is.

3. You ask again for the price.

4. He talks about the quality of uncompressed pictures.

5. You ask again

5. After informing you about the differences between 4:4:4: and 4:2:2 he comes up with that number.

6. After beeing mute for a minute you both laugh.

7 You hang up to buy a Laptop and Onlocation.

It sounds expensive if that is any hint... I would like to know though.

Looks perfect, and if it's recording raw uncompressed 2k, you can bet it'll be very expensive. The Wafian is something like $15,000, and that records single-link compressed video; this thing is saying it does dual-link uncompressed raw. Suffice it to say I don't think any EX1 or XHG1 owners are going to find this an affordable option. Red users, perhaps.

Hey there... last project I was on, we shot with the Megacine and the arri d20.
I will see the final stuff next week (it was an ad).
The footage I already saw, simply looked incredible, of course it does, it has its price.

Don't know of the prices, but it's the well-protected apple of eye of my university :)
You better have some good editing facilities...

Best,
Max.

The ad has its premiere tomorrow night, so I am pretty excited. Not sure if they will put somethng online, but if they do, I will let you guys know.
Don't think there is any use of owning one of these things (though my university does almost a year already)...
at least I will be able to shoot with it next year.

Best,
Max.

Hey there!

Thursday night I watched three projects done with the arri d20 and megacine combo (some shots were down with the weisscam) on a hd projector. Can't tell you about compression and other technical aspects, but just my personal impression.

The pictures where ultra sharp and had a very cinematic look and feel. I totally blew me away. Especially when watching a 16mm short in between, it's easy to pick a winner.
Only thing irritating is the ultra sharp, digital picture. Somehow a bit seems to be missing. No wobbling at the edges or anything so typical for "real cinema"... But after all, very impressive.

The most impressive work was the diploma project by four students. You can watch the trailer here:

It should be hitting the festival circuit soon, and it's not only impressive from a technical point of view.

I've heard rumors about a somehow still film-like workflow with that combo, but dont know if it's because of the megacine or the d20... I will dig on that.

All the best so far,
Max.

There is badly compressed (of course it is...) go and watch it on a big screen... then you know the future is digital... and it just has begun :)

This looked amazing!
I just canīt stand this half-comedy, theatrical acting in most German movies...

Amazing footage. But what else would you expect from that combo.
