I have the HVX. now i'm more mature and it's too noisy and unsharp to me. I sell it, but i don't want to spend too much.
Seriously, i think that the A1 looks better (even if specs are not so high, what's matter for me now is just picture quality from the eye point of view, not the white paper point of view)

I saw the wonderful footage done with A1 and Letus Extreme and i'm sold out.

Please convince me that the HVX is better, or i will sell it within a week.
(With warranty, 6 months old, used 20 hours, perfect, as new, mint, always kept in Pelican Case, i sell for $5000 (PAL)

I've seen great footage out of almost every major camera in the "24p" HD category.
Do your research first and try out a A-1 in person. It would be a bad idea to do a trade on impulse and get the same type of results you got with your current camera.

Footage is the first better.

Post is the second. Have you examined the editing and post workflow and difficulties with the XH-A1 compared to the HVX200?

It's your money. The mature person knows how to handle their cash in a way that suits them best. I get askin' "EX-1 vs HVX" and "HVX vs A1", but there's so much A1 footage around to judge from at this point you don't have to ask us to convince you to keep your camera.

The A1 can produce a great HDV image, as seen by disjecta's offerings and others. With or without an adapter.

Hey someday, I can answer your question beings that I own an canon a1. it's ironic that i was just testing them against eachother before i got on dvx user. From my test so far the canon a1 lacks way behind the hvx color but the sharper, cleaner image is hands down the canon a1. I matched the color of the hvx pretty close in final cur by using the color wheel. i'm going to be honest with you. the a1 may be visualy as sharp as the sony ex1. please no one get mad at me i didn't say it was i only said visualy. but i guess i can say that i have the best of both worlds right now unless i decide to sell the hvx and just get another canon a1. i'll no by the end of the week.

I just recently sold my A1 and got an HVX in part based on my experience shooting with someone else's HVX over the past year or so. The annoying issues with the A1 to me are the whole "24F" scenario which I found particularly irritating, the servo controlled zoom, and the auto focus sensor which is mounted in such a way that it prevents mounting a focus ring to the lens.

As others have mentioned in regard to these "pro-sumer" cameras, whichever one you choose, it pretty much comes down to which respective shortcomings of each camera you want to put up with. They all have the ability to create great looking footage.

This thread is really unnecessary. If you're unhappy with your HVX then sell it and get something else. If resolution is important to you and the A1 has what you need then go for it. This whole HVX vs. A1 vs. EX1 vs. camera of the month is long played out and it just leads to circular discussions and people getting mad at each other. There's no obvious "deal breaker" point that any of us can give that's going to sway you one way or the other. All the pros and cons have been laid out before in other threads.

The most realistic advice is to get your hand on an A1 and play with it and decide whether it's worth it to you.

I have to agree with Jade.

You know the ball players here.

If it you don't like the HVX200, "sell it within a week."

Why should anyone try to convince you otherwise?

As you have the A1, i saw the Letus Extreme + A1 footage, and i liked it a lot.
What about NOISE at -3dB?

noise at -3 is virtualy non existtent, and thats not even with the noise reduction on. the lens seems to be super crisp in sd also. either way i think you can get what you need out of both cams, just half to tweak either here and there to your satisfaction. also contrary to what some have said about canons codec, if your not going color corection crazy you can push the colors alot further then the beginer hdv cams like the fx1s and z1us. i love my a1.

I had the xha1 and sold it. I have the HVX now and am happier with my decision. Canon has a great product in the a1. But the Panny has the more robust feature list.

Also, Barry did an excellent comparison of the A1 and HVX in this forum. Read it.

It's a good comparison - specs wise, but I guess he was asking for something more raw and on user's opinions. I've recently started looking towards HD and it's come down to the XH-A1 or HVX for me as well (although I don't have an HVX currently). I've looked at footage from both and I've immersed myself in both HVX and XH-A1 sections.

I'm on the boards quite a bit and I haven't noticed many HVX vs XH-A1 threads - people may be getting tired of the HVX vx EX-1 threads but they're still out and about. There hasn't been an HVX vs XH-A1 thread in a while to my recollection and information's always changing. It's been most helpful to me and I'm sure the original poster.

Perhaps you missed the first part of my post.

In regards to what? I wasn't singling you out, you contributed fine...I was just stating a fact to all the other users who said that this topic has been overdone.
