so iam wondering if shooting widescreen squeeze on 100B would be better than the HVX200 in the same mood. Is the 100B less noisy?

the HVX shoots natively 16:9, so squeeze is not necessary, the Dvx shoots natively in 4:3, so if you want 16:9 you must use the squeeze mode and loose 20% of your resolution, plus you can shoot In Hd with the HVX and then down convert to SD, the noise becomes minimal unlike the DVx which is already in SD, so you cant take the down conversion into measure.

You sure it's 20% of quality loss when in SQUEEZE mode on the DVX Jon?

ok i heard that 20% loss when using letterbox, but not squeeze

18-20% is probably about right. Maybe a bit less.

But it's not "quality loss," it's simply less vertical resolution than it would be if it were native 16:9. Not the same thing.

so i heard its better to use the DVX100B for a filmout in squeeze mode, rather than the HVX200 in 720p or 1080p cause of the noise issue. this sounds really silly

That's skull-crackingly preposterous.

Understatement of the year.

one major difference between the dvx100 and hvx200 ?

try to shoot with low light, the hvx200 needs a lot more light !

Preposterous? yes, but more like ridiculous.

The HVX in "squeeze mode" is dramatically sharper than the DVX in "squeeze mode". Then, on top of that, you can put the HVX in HD mode which makes it extremely way sharper.

The DVX has two advantages over the HVX: low-light sensitivity, and when shooting 480/60i mode. Other than that, the HVX is better in all ways (and, yes, that does include noise performance; the HVX's noise is never worse than the DVX and frequently it's better).

Correct in all points. Could you tell me more about the 480/60i mode ? What makes the DVX better in that mode than the HVX ?
Since the tv station I mainly work with will only go 16:9 in winter of 2009 I just bought a DVX and hope that in the meantime new models come out.

There's something in the 200 which causes artifacting in 480/60i, a noticeable stair-stepping aliasing under certain conditions. It doesn't happen in 720/60p or 1080/60i.

There are threads on it.
