I do not own HVX. Can you shoot a higher frame rate, say 48 frames per second and then slow it down in post to 24 to get perfect 50% slow motion?

Yes, although you don't have to slow it down in post, you can do it in-camera.
(but be aware, the frame rates are not necessarily exactly as stated, so 48fps is almost but not exactly 48.000 fps, etc).

So is that a common practice for slow mo on HVX?

that is a common practice for film in general. Any slow motion shot is made up of a higher framerate such as 48 fps, and then played back in 24 fps.

Yes, that's how it's done the "right way", with proper overcranked motion sampling done in-camera. That gives you frame-accurate perfect film-style slow motion. Synthesizing frames in post is never going to deliver the same results.

Sounds like an amazing feature. Damn, HVX beats out A1 by a mile. HD, time lapse, instant slow motion, manual zoom, P2. The best camera I can think of under 10 grand.

The A1 is HD. Just making that clear.
