Best HD 4 low light??

hey.
checking into the best options for a good low light HD camera. the old SD camera Sony vx2100 was GREAT . Not only that but the price tag would not shock or kill you.
but since everything is gonna go HD, I'm wondering what is a good HD solution, particularly (and heres the hard part) one that won't break the bank.
In other words, what is the "new vx2100" ??

None of the lower-cost HD camcorders come anywhere close to what the VX2100 or DVX could do in low-light sensitivity. The nearest you'll find at the lowest price point would be the EX1 at $6700-ish.

Hey edg -

Try to borrow or rent a canon xh a1. I currently own an HVX, which I generally use for narrative work and music videos...projects for which i try to have "real" lighting.

BUT in my comparison shopping, I discovered the A1 had a nice film-like grain in low light conditions. More pleasant -- IMHO here, your price and mileage may vary -- than a DVX. I say this reluctantly, since I've worked on a number of award-winning broadcast projects with the DVX.

But you MUST decide for yourself. FYI - Some shops may give you a decent half-day rental rate...or less...if you tell them it's for testing and not a paying gig.

I second that. Dismiss specs, What looks the cleanest? I would have to say the Canon XH-A1

Apparently Sony's new Z7U HDV camera has the low-light capabilities of the PD150/170.

the ex1 has 1/2" chips every other camera mentioned has 1/3" chips. i'll take the ex1 for low light
