hello everybody,

my name is daniel. i'm from germany and about to buy a 35mm adapter for my dvx 100 be (pal). thanks to you guys i now know nearly enough to go on and buy one.

but there is one thing i'm not sure about yet. which one is the lightest and easiest to handle adapter, while shooting handheld most of the time?

- SGpro
- Letus
- Brevis

thanks a lot for your 2cents
daniel

O.K., that seems to be clear.

Unfortunately the Brevis-solution is the most expensive solution.

Perhaps someone using SGPro or Letus can tell me something about handheld-shoting with these adpaters.

thx a lot

daniel

Bokii, the thing about the brevis is that not only it is very compact but it's also super light. It's a very good adapter and it's worth every peny.

You sure it's the most expensive? Keep in mind you don't have to buy the flip module. Also, unless using long lenses you don't need rails. I've been using mine for a while without rails.

the letus is amazing, but its super heavy. the unit itself is around 3 pounds. Built like a tank. Can't say anything for the SgPro, never used it before. But i have used the Brevis ( non flip ) and its the featherweight of the adapters.

I love my SG Pro. You could get a $50 Bogen/Manfrotto monopod to help steady any handheld setup that feels to heavy. That's what I intend to do.

...but I'd like to.

With my BE the magnet-flip-the-display-trick won't work. And actually I don't want to open the Display-Body-Link to fix this problem.

You'll probably want a monitor anyway when playing with depth of field and if not, just use a mirror to flip the lcd. If you're after run n gun then it's the only way to go (setup time).

3 pounds! Jesus! I know if looks big and all but I had no idea it was that heavy.

Sorry, but could you please explain how that could work. Are you talking about attaching an ordinary mirror?

Yeah just attaching a square mirror at about a 90 degree angle from the lcd (imagine placing in a lcd hood). Sorry I was looking for some pics in google but couldn't come up with any.

I would say get the brevis..I have the sgpro..you can use the monopod but it is not as compact as the brevis. And now they have the flip option. But for run and gun..less is more.

Letus made my bicep mass go up by like three percent the first week I had it.

Brevis is the lightest solution

Im sure you have done so but you should count in the import taxes and VAT when you compare the prices.

For example I paid 30 euro customs and 200 euro VAT on my adapter (Letus Extreme) delivered to Finland.

Im very happy with the adapter and happy with my decision, I like a bit of a weight in my rig though, keeps me in shape :)

Weight is always a consideration in our design work. The Brevis in flip mode is a full pound lighter than the Letus EX, and in non-flip mode is just over 1lb altogether! Extensive use of carbon fibre keeps it's chassis extremely stable, and carefull design/machining of the aluminum parts keeps it even lighter. A good example of this is our flip unit itself. The retail version we're shipping right now is easily 1/2 the weight of the first one we tested with...and that's with the identical optics. Factor in the new rails system that uses solid 15mm carbon fibre and you potentially save another few pounds, while maintaining stiffness nearly twice that of conventional 15mm stainless systems. The new quick-release Brevis to rails mount offers a rig-release in a few seconds...and is ligher/stiffer than what it replaces!

And you probably also forgot postal expences, customs and 20%VAT.. so, at the end, it will cost you something like the same price in $$..

I think, for that reasons, sgpro would be the best bet for us, living in EU..

..and you get a spinner; what do you want more??

o.k., obviously it's neverending...

i'll try to get a used brevis-unit in europe.
if that won't work i'll go for the spinner.

daniel

I think the stated objective was 'lightest'.

right. but it still has to be affordable. my budget is round about 1200€

We ship using fedex express...meaning all brokerage fees are included, and it's there in 2 days. If you have a VAT number, then your only cost is the shipping :-)
