I shot HD video on a XHA1 but want to capture it on my old sd sony handycam to avoid putting the wear on the XHA1. I put the hd tape into the handycam and the camera isn't seeing any video or timecode on the tape (all I see is the blue background with battery/timecode indicators. The camera is able to view a tape that was shot on it in sd but not the canon tape shot in hd on the xha1.

Is there a setting I need to change on the handycam in order to get it to read the hd tape? Is this possible? What kind of spare camera/deck is necessary in order to view an hd tape. I don't want to view it in hd on the spare camera, I am just using it as a capture deck in to final cut.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Tapes shot in HDV mode must be read on an HDV camera. Tapes shot using the Canon 24F or 30F mode must be read on a Canon HDV camera. Canon do not make any decks that will read these materials, but the Canon HV10, HV20 and upcoming HV30 handycams will read these tapes.
