Hi everybody,

I have a little problem with the P2 Viewer and the P2 Contents Management Software.

I had installed the P2 viewer and everything was ok. I set virtual P2 cards could play the clips, everything fine.

Then I installed the P2Contents Management Software, P2CMS. Since then, I cannot replay the clips from the P2 Viewer any more. The clips are still there and I can see the virtual and real P2 cards and clips, but cannot replay them.
When I open the P2CMS
Program, itr is scanningff of the files. Then I can doubleclick a file, it opens the viewer part of the P2 Viewer and replays the clip through the P2 viewer.

I have heard, there s a problem in the registry, that both programs use the same file or so. But I have no real idea.

Anybody knows this problem and has a solution?

Thanks

Dieter

I have that exact MB/processor/mem config.............. very fast.

uninstall both programs: use the 'add remove' utilithy
reboot
verify that you have .net Framwork 3.5 installed........... if not, get it from MS .net Framework webpage
reboot
Reinstall P2CMSBTW..................... edit your boot.ini file to include the /3GB switch statement.

good luck..................

Reinstall P2CMSOK, in process. I only had .net 2.0
Thanks, it worked. I did install the P2 Viewer again too and now it replays again.

I am a bit of a computer dummie I am only using it.
I made a seach for boot.ini but did not find anything.

Here's a link that describes the memory managment for Windows XP 32.
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/PAEmem.mspx
You will need to add /3GB to the end of the string as indicated in the linked example.

Here's a link that descirbes how to edit the boot.ini file:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022

BTW: I think it's best to have just P2CMS loaded. It has P2 viewer built into it.

Guys, no disrespect intended and not intending to start a flame war but does anything about this process seem arcane?

Thanks. Done it and it worked.
Is it now faster?

Yes, but I think I like the P2Viewer a little bnetter, the way he handles the virtual P2 cards etc. or I just have to get to know the P2CMS better.

Greetings and thanks

Depends on what LNE you are using. PP CS3 can take advantage of the 'extra' memory with the /3GB switch.

BTW.................... hopefully, no one will take the hijack "bait". Please keep posts relevant to the topic.

Okay, guilty as charged.

Nope, not going to hijack, it just struck me as I read all of the programming type of stuff.

Good luck,

Dan

Hi John

I am using Avid Liquid 7.2 Pro.

Unfortunately, it does not support the 720 mode.
Do you know, if PP CS3 supports the P2 by now? I think I am going to get it because of "On Location".

In the P2CMS dowload there is a note saying you can either install P2 viewer or P2CMS you can not install both. If you did please uninstall both and reinstall the P2CMS and it will have P2 viewer with it.
The advantage of P2CMS over P2 viewer is you dont have to do virtual cards you can brows and folder and see the the thumbnails fast. Also if you have P2 drive connected it will see all the P2 cards clips at the same time. If you want to export the only certain clips the highlight and right click and export its easy.

Yes, Premiere Pro CS3 supports P2 now. And After Effects should pretty soon.

I was really against Adobe's suite until I tried CS3. I had terrible stability problems and it didn't seem to be worth the price. CS3 isn't rock-solid yet, but it's a LOT more reliable than CS2, and OnLocation makes it a really good value. I'm looking forward to P2 support in AE.

It might be cheaper to sign up for a class at a community college and get the educational discount than pay full price, though!

Thanks for the hint.
I used to edit with Premiere 6.0 and 6.5, so I can upgade to CS3.
Actually, I will mainly buy it because of On Location.

That CS3 supports P2 now is a very nice add on.
Also, I need to make NTSC DVDs. The export worked well with Premiere
and with Liqued 7.2, the NTSC DVDs are not really compatible and I have bit trouble making them.
So I hope, this will be better with CS3 too.

I have one more question:
I tried to cpoy a clip, (1080i50i) that i copied from the P2 Card to my computer back to the P2 card. I tried it with the P2 Viewer and with the P2CMS. Both did not work.
Then I tried it with Liquid 7.2 X-send to P2 and the result was a message with "This format is not supported"
Any idea, how to get a clip back on the P2 card?

Thanks

I'm using Premiere CS3 and it does 'ingest' MXF files quite easily. So far, the program has been very stable for me.

I'm not sure how stable the Pani SW is when both programs are installed. ??? Pani recommends that only one program be installed at a time.

If you can't get the Pani SW to work you can always drag/drop the Contents folder back to the P2 card using Explorer.

Thanks, but what is "Pani SW"?

And the card was pretty full, so I only wanted to copy two clips on the card. But did not work unfortunately.

With the P2 Viewer, it works from the P2 Card to the Virtual P2 Cards. But not the other way back onto the Card. Why not?

Aha!!!!
I found the problem in the P2 viewer!

The primary BIN, where I wanted to copy the clips to, was set to "all P2" cards. For I only have one, so I did not care. But for the P2 Viewer, this is not a specific path.
As soon as I set the primary BIN to the correct drive, so that it shows only the P2 card in the HVX200, it copied the files without any problems.

Good to solve a problem by understanding what is happening.
