View Full Version : My laptop when down, how can I dump my cards now?

I've been using my old lap top which takes P2 cards in the side slot to dump footage to be edited on my Mac Pro tower. But it just fried the logic board again and I've gotta take it in.
There is some footage on the cards that I haven't dumped that I need right now. Anyway to get it off with just the camera and a Mac Pro tower?
Thanks

Yep, if you use a 4pin to 6 pin firewire cable and connect your camera to your tower then press and hold the camera/vcr button on the back of your HVX200 it will show up on your desktop as a removable harddrive.
make sure you write protect your cards before you do that though!

Use the FW disc mode and mount and transfer them that way.
Just copy protect the p2 card first.

Are the drivers installed?
Have you followed the manual procedure for mounting the cam in the firewire connect mode?

There are a significant number of posts here and elsewhere about the Mac OS writing to a unwrite protected card.
Many of us write protect the card before transferring it to prevent any possibility of this because it can cause corrupted mxf clips.

David, I appreciate the help.
What drivers exactly, and no I haven't followed the manual procedure. Could you send me to a link that shows that?
Thanks

did you press and HOLD the camera/vcr button on the HVX? It takes a few seconds for it to work. There's a 3rd set of lights underneath the CVR light son the HVX that lets you know when you have it set up.

I didn't have to install any drivers, but it does take about 30 seconds for mine to show up on my destop after pushing the button. I usually open up FCP and import the P2 after I do that too.

p. 82 and 83.
The drivers are available at Panasonic's web site, and here:

I got it to appear on my desktop and I nearly downloaded all the media, but then my FCP started crashing. It says it was caused by the-
libMXF_SDK_r.3.2.0.132.dylib plug-in
Say what?!
Oh well I'm on the phone with Apple and this dude is helping me...
We'll see.

This "dude?"
An Apple "dude?" Those are the best kind.
Seriously, unless you have a FCP guru, no dude is going to help.
Why aren't you write protecting the card and copying the mounted NO NAME volume to your HDD?

He's a FCP specialist.
Yeah that's exactly what I should have done. I thought I would take my time though and import it by taking only the bits and pieces I needed through log and transfer.
Mistake. I'm copying it all now..
