I like to buy a hard case (air tight, water tight) case for my Sony EX1 camera. What are some of the recommendations? I was looking at the Pelican cases here (http://www.justcases.com/pelprotcas.html). However, I have never used a Pelican case before and not sure which which one will fit.
Any help is appreciated.

You'll need a 1550 or larger due to the ex1 being wide. It gives you plenty of room for other stuff too.

Thanks so much for the input. I was wondering if I should wait for the case that is specifically made for the EX1 or buy a Pelican case. It seems to me that a Pelican case is very sturdy and tough.

Pelicans are the best hard case - a bit heavy but very sturdy and truly waterproof.
The pick and pluck foam is not so hot - it shreds after awhile. Best to get a Peli and get custom foam made for the inside. There are many companies that do that.
It's only a matter of time before someone makes a precut foam set for the EX1, just as several companies do for the HVX.

If I were you Id get a pelican 1650, with plenty of space and trolley plus a small over the shoulder bag suitable for carry on luggage and thats very flexible for other purposes, walking long distances etc. Pelican alone can be cumbersome and overkill at times.

Many thanks for the suggestions. Mathew77, will you give me some of the links to those companies that make custom foam? It would be nice if any can make a precut foam set for th EX1 so that I don't have to manually do it myself.

Try Googling "pelican case custom foam"
Lots of choices.
Never tried any of them, so I cannot recommend. In the past I've gone to my local Anvil case guy and had him make the foam.

Thanks! I'll give that a whirl at Google.

Abel Cine Tech will have a Storm 2720 case with a custom EX1 foam available in a few weeks.

The Storm cases are way better than anything Pelican makes.

Abel Cine Tech will have a Storm 2720 case with a custom EX1 foam available in a few weeks.
Thanks! I'll keep that in check. I would love to have an already pre-cut foam made specifically for the EX1. Do you have a link to the site?

Okay, I just found the site. Are you referring to this (http://www.stormcase.com/StormCaseSizes/StormiM2720.htm)?

Yes thats the case we will be using. The custom foam insert is at the shop being made so we should have it back next week to approve then we can start assembling the cases. The price will be around $300.

Okay, do you ask for a custome pre-cut foam specific for the EX1 or that they will start selling an already made pre-cut foam plus case in a few weeks?

It will be the case and the foam together.

Thanks!

I've been searching for a pre-cut foam specific for an EX1 camera and I couldn't find any. Will someone post some site or place where they are able to do a pre-cut foam specific for EX1?

Okay, I'm torn between these two cases:
Pelican 1560 (http://www.justcases.com/65560.html)and Hardigg Storm Case - iM2720 (http://www.stormcase.com/StormCaseSizes/StormiM2720.htm)
Pelican case is $200, I assumed that include foam but I'm not sure what the price on the Storm case. I've read some reviews on another forum and it seemed that both brand are very good. What I like more about the Storm case is that it's 3.2 pounds lighter than the Pelican. Storm case has multi layer foam...not sure about Pelican. It would be nice if there is a EX1 camera pre-cut foam available. So what else should I be considering?

mycharlie,
might want to consider this option

I personally think the pelican or storm are slightly overkill...but I guess it depends on the way you get around with it and where you go.

Kubalsky, that is definitely something I will have to buy eventually if it is small enough for carry-on in airport when I'm traveling. However, it seemed that particular case is a bit short for my rail system which is 18" and the price is only about $50 less than the Pelican case. But yes, nice suggestion. I'm also in the market for a carry on case/bag too.

Any other suggestions? I'm still looking for a pre-cut foam for the Sony EX1. Does anyone know of a foam retailer that will do special pre-cut foam for the EX1 if I give them the dimension of the case?

Here's one from Zacuto... might be overkill, but the first one I've seen.

The Storm cases are MUCH better than the Pelicans. I have both and only buy the Storms now usually from Cases 4 Less. (http://www.cases4less.com/detail_storm_2720.html)
