My duel adapter has just died on me. desperately need to unload the card to shoot tomorrow morning. Im using a lacie 250gb external hdd powered from the wall.I am turning the camera on switching to 1394 host mode then powering up the hdd.
the hvx doesn't register the drive.

I have tried all possible connection sequences and the HDD still isn't registering. the oly option it gives me is the setup option.

help....any thoughts???

Plug the HVX via FW directly into your computer and copy the data over. Also, I think what you're trying to do only works with "on-the-go" drives.

What is an on-the-go drive, and where can I get one? Unless your talking about a Firestore type device. I'm looking for a setup like the firestore, but I don't need all the EXTRA features the firestore has that makes it sooooo expensive.

An OTG acts like a host computer, so you can plug it into the HVX and dump footage directly to it (without the need for a computer). You can ONLY dump footage to it though, you can not capture footage as you're shooting. So the disadvantage is your camera is tied up while you have to dump the footage, which is just over 2min per gig with usb 2. Firewire is about twice as fast as this. Pretty handy though.

Here's the OTG usb that I have: http://www.pcmicrostore.com/PartDetail.aspx?q=pl:1;b:1506;p:10501983

You might want to try and find a firewire one.

I use my camera to connect to my Desktop PC via firewire to offload P2 cards. On the road I use a laptop via pcmcia.

I'll just stick with my laptop. For a second there I though you meant real time capturing and I got really excited!

It's actually MUCH cheaper than P2 cards of the same 160GB capacity.
