From the February 2008 issue of DV magazine:

"This is a camera package that crosses many borders. With 4 P2 slots, off-speed shooting, native 24p, and the best focus assist I've ever seen, this is a fantastic camera system at an unbelievable price." -Jay Holben

Not like you didn't know that, but still....

Man, I must be missing something...

As much as I love my 500's, I just can't seem to get my fat head around the focus assist feature. I mean, I can get to work if I mess with it, but for run and gun, I struggle and find it takes too long to lock in.

But as Jay points out, bang for buck - the 500 is nothing short of amazing!

Focus assist is easy -- just point the crosshairs at what you want in focus, and spin the focus ring until you get the fattest, longest histogram. Then you're in instant sharp focus.

Also, I've edited the thread title. It would be very helpful if people could make the effort to start referring to these cameras *not* by the letters "HPX", as "HPX" doesn't mean the HPX500. There are already at least four HPX cameras (HPX500, HPX2000, HPX2100, HPX3000) and any new models will probably be "HPX" as well. So it'd be a lot more descriptive if we referred to it with either its full model number or, for shorthand, just the numeric part (i.e., the '500' or 'the 3000'.)

I have to agree. We are getting fantastic results with our HPX(502, thanks Barry)

Only area we have trouble with is weird over saturation and colouring in background highlights

Good Point Barry, sorry.
