View Full Version : How to convert DVD to AVI
I have, unfortunately, archived a lot of my material in dvd format and I ran into a project where I need to convert some of it to avi so I can drop into my NLE (Vegas or Premier pro).
In the past I have ran an analog signal through my digital deck and then firewire out. Is there a software solution that is better?
Mucho thanks...

Just drag the .VOB file off the DVD and onto the timeline in Vegas. It can read DVD VOB files directly, no conversion necessary.
Thanks Barry...
Oh, and by the way, thanks for the write-up on the EX1 v HVX. I will be upgrading my cam later this year and your input helps greatly. I was leaning toward the EX1 but now I have to reconsider that direction. Your time put in on evaluating and writing helps those of us who are a bit less knowledgeable and can't afford to buy just to test.
Thanks again !...Jeffro

The same goes with FCP6.

I didn't know that until today! and I've been demuxing my VOBs like a fool all this time!
Its like finding out that everyones being using an elevator that you didn't know existed :)
EDIT::
would you not need to rip the VOBs from the DVD first? as for as I remember you can not simply copy and paste the files (or is that just with CD files)
