View Full Version : Connecting HVX and Totevision 703

Okay I have no idea what to do here.

1 - how do I feed video to the Totevision? Componet cables that come with the HVX come out to three RCA looking plugs. The Component inputs behind the Totevision have different type of sockets. If I go S-Video out I wouldn't get HD correct? What kind of cable do I need or do I get adapters that would convert the sockets behind the monitor to the RCA type plugs?

2 - How do I mount the Totevision to the HVX. I have some hotshoe mounts that came with Vidled and a battery I have, but there is no thread anywhere on the monitor. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi,

The HVX should come with three RCA to BNC adapters for the component cable, if not you can buy them for a few dollars each at places like radio shack. That will take care of viewing HD as connecting with the s-video cable will not give you an HD signal.

There's many ways to connect the Totevision to the HVX (hotshoe mount or noga arms seem to be the most popular), and I wrote a pretty detailed post about my setup and connecting a battery to the monitor. Here's a link: http://dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=119561

Just make sure the hotshoe mount can support the weight you're putting on it.

Enjoy!

Did your HVX come with those RCA to BNC adapter? Are the ones in the pic, on that post you put up, the ones that came with the camera?

You might be seeing the L-Shaped BNC to BNC adapters in the pic. I used those to put less weight on the tote's connectors since they are directly connected to the board. But attached to those are the RCA to BNC which came with the HVX.

These are the type you'll need if they didn't come with your hvx: http://valley-ent.com/catalog/female-male-adapter-p-219.html?cPath=40&language=en

Nice I found the ones that came with the HVX. One more question, can I now use RCA cables to extend the length of the cord? The end of the component cable that came with the HVX comes out to the three RCA plugs. Can I add, say an extra 20 or 30 feet of RCA cables out from the end of the Component, then use the BNC adapters to hook it up to the Totovision? Or will I run into problems?

Also how did you screw on the hotshoe mount because I cant find anywhere on the Totevision where you can screw it in? Your atricle said that you got a powdered plate?

The term RCA just describes the type of connectors at the end of a cable, much like BNC is also just the connector type. So with the right adapters you can attach extra length of cable to the HVX component cable and then feed that into the monitor.

However, the type of cable and the length are the trick here. I suggest using a high quality component cable for the extra cable and also keeping closer to 20 ft of length. I bought a 50 ft RG59 component cable and found that the interference from the extra length made it impossible to use the monitor. I'm still investigating a replacement cable, but will probably buy one from b&h.

I got the powdered plate from Totevision which screwed into the two larger open holes on the bottom (or top) side of the monitor. The hotshoe mount then screwed into the powdered plate.

I'm not exactly sure if those are shipping standard with the monitors right now. I picked mine up locally and they seemed to have forgotten to put one in the box, so I asked where it was and they just gave me one. You could always call them to ask if it was supposed to include one.
