Pulldown removal is always a pain in the butt (admit it). And until recently, removing pulldown from the AVCHD Canon cameras was more difficult and error-prone than for the HV20. So, last night I sat down until 4 AM and researched the matter and have found a free solution to the problem. Testing is required, I am mostly interested if A/V always stays in good sync and if MEncoder can handle really large files (my own test files were not huge): http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2008/01/04/canon-avchd-24p-pulldown-removal/

WOW, that seems like a lot of work, just to convert files.

I use cineform Aspect HD, and it removes the pulldown.
I am still looing for a more simple solution, but not finding anything.

To me, the AVCHD is lacking in color fidelity, so I would want to convert it to something I could first bump up the color a bit.

My workflow is convert to aspect HD and take out pull down.
Then edit in premiere
Then output to final format. If going to web, I have to first output to WMV and then to flash for vimeo.

Thanks for your tutorials though, they are very good, but for me, too complicated to replace how I have been doing it (although I want to).

Hello. I'm new to DVXUser but I follow the discussions here for quite some time. I recently bought a HF100 and I'm using this tutorial to remove the pulldown on my 24p movies. I'm seeing a weird de-interlace problem with a new footage where there's a huge contrast between two colors (in this particular case, white and red). I'm posting a picture to illustrate my problem. I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong, but I have double checked everything and it is exactly like the tutorial. Has anyone seem anything similar to this? Thank you.

Get Cineform and then it will save you lots of time in post.

Sorry for re-opening a relatively old thread but I am having problems with Eugenia's method of removing pulldown and am wondering if anyone has encountered the same thing.

The problem I am having is the part in method 1 that says "Also, make sure that ffdshow is the default .m2ts/.mts decoder in your system (you can set the h.264 codec in the ffdshow configuration panel to “ffmpeg-mt”). Otherwise, it won’t work correctly."

The problem is that ffdshow does not give me "ffmpeg-mt" as an option for the h.264 codec. I'm definite I followed all the instructions, is there something else I have to do to install the "ffmpeg-mt" codec on my system?

Thanks for any input.

Hello Eugenia,

I am new to this 24p pulldown removal technique. I downloaded NeoScene trial version for Mac OSX. I am running 10.5.7.

After installation of the trial version, i tried to open a .mov video file that was recorded using Canon Vixia HF11. I imported the footage to my Mac using Final Cut Pro's "Log & Transfer" So the video is already transcoded into ProRes. So when I try to bring in that footage into NeoScene, I get an error: "No known conversion for selected file".

does the footage have to be in the raw format (.m2ts) for the 24p pulldown technique to work or can it be done even after the footage was imported into the hard drive using Final Cut Pro's "Log & Transfer"?

Please advise.
Thanks,
Lowell

Its easy to remove it in after effects, you must try different algorithms and pick the one which wont display you double frames(cloned frames). If your fotage has badly removed pulldown then choppy footage will be visible because of cloned frames, you can see it in frame to frame view, you will get 2 identical frames every 2 frames. Its also waste of space of course so be sure to check if you have double frames or not,if not then pulldown is removed properly.
