Just got the HVX200 and I'm a little worried about theft. Has anyone else insured there property, and if so, whats the best way to go about doing it. I live with my grandmother and she tried to add it to her homeowners insurance, but they denied her because i'm not on the title. They suggested renters insurance, but I don't rent either. Figured I'd try here, because this is the place to come for answers. Thanks .

Get a DBA, then get a general business policy as long as you do not plan on leaving the country or have needs beyond what simple coverage would provide.
Of course, you COULD be a "renter" also if your grandmother wanted to be named as your landlord, but then renters insurance only covers your stuff as it sits in your apartment.

I have a Valuable Personal Property policy with my agent. I insured my HVX, M2, lenses, rails, and other accessories (value approx $8500) for about $200/year. This is NOT a business policy though as I currently do not use the HX to derive a significant portion of my income. I will be switching to a business policy sometime this year though as I transition and use my gear more and more.

what you need is an "Equipment Floater" policy ... I'm incorporated so it's a write-off for the business too. Also needed for Panny's lease plan.
I just got coverage for my HVX and DVX and (8k of coverage) for $300/year. $1k deductible.
"Coverage is provided for damage, destruction or loss resulting from covered losses that include but are
not limited to: fire, theft, vandalism, breakage and water damage. Theft from an Unattended Automobile is
covered, only if there are visible signs of forcible entry. However, the most we will pay is $50,000 for any
unattended vehicle loss. Coverage is provided for the cost to repair or replace equipment with new
equipment."

Ive never heard of these people. Is this a very common way to insure equipment?
One of their major exclusions is "mysterious disappearance" what exactly is that?
I've been looking around for insurance as well and they seem quite a bit less than the other places I've checked...ie. Hill and Usher etc.

I'm headed out of the country for a couple weeks to film in Europe, does anyone have a recommendation on out-of-country insurance?

I did an "all risk" floater policy on my normal property insurance since I don't use my gear for income... I ran down the list of all the scenarios that could happen to see if I'd be covered and they (USAA) ensured me the only thing that I wouldn't be covered from is Nuclear Warfare.
and if that's the case I don't think i'll be worring about my gear.

Yeah i was wondering about that too. I know the guys with the big HDW cameras had insurance even if you broke it, Lost it, or it was stolen. I am sure it was spendy as they were 100,000 plus cameras but still they must have something like that for our small cheap HVX's...??
i have a $50,000 property policy with the hartford. i pay $500 a year. also covers business liability and other here and there things.

I am a college student and I just purchased and HVX. What I did was looked around for the best price for renters insurance (of course you have to be renting a house/apt/etc.) I was able to get $12,000 of coverage for all my personal property for about $6 a month. This covers any of my stuff if its stolen, or damaged/broken in fire/water damage and other stuff. If anything I am covered a lot more than most. Very good option for those renters who are strapped for cash.

Well I had renter's insurance but gave up on it after my property was vandalised and they stopped returning my phone calls and refused to reimburse me.
Is there a reputable place that will just cover me for my trip?

I have Sate Farm to insure my gear in the form of a personal articles policy. Covers all of the bases, theft, damage (fire, water, grizzly bear), mysterious loss. and it is about $10 a grand so I pay about $150 a year with no deductable. Very pleased.

I think that maybe you might have gotten insurance through someone maybe not so reputable. Its a little ridiculous assume ALL renters insurance is not worth it.
