excuse me if this is a dumb question, but excluding the h.264, 50mb and 16:9 parameters for each submission outlined by Barry, are there any other specifics on the deliverable format for each entry?
specifically should they be in SD? Is HD okay?
Resolution size? 1920? 1440? 720? etc.

just want to be sure that what I submit is in proper format?

50mb isn't much so most people end up going something like 480*270 or 320*240. Think those are right...

I don't think HD is allowed. I remember Brandon Rice entered his video in SD, and then later on posted his HD version of the video on the boards...

Not quite sure though...

It's just the fact that HD would be far too big a file, that's all.

If you can squeeze HD into 50meg I don't think there is a problem...

maybe we need to start the compression tutorial again. if you are submitting, PLEASE try to make your film at the minimum 480x270. 640x360 seems to be a good size. And it does help your chances of doing well if you strike a good balance between how big (resolution) your film is and the quality of it's compression.

This is by no means official, just some advice about what's worked/hasn't worked in the past.

for the online exhibition, should a project (like mine) with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio be matted as such within a 16x9 frame, or can i crop it to 2.35:1? it would help if i didn't have to allocate some of that 50mb to the black bars.

Whatever resolution you can fit into a 50meg file is what you can do. I'm looking at a 960x540 rez in a 42 meg file right now for my entry, unless something changes.

Zak, we have had both in the past. I'm deciding that myself. I will say though, that I rendered a 16x9 matted, and a 2:35 and the filesize wasn't really any different for either of them. But, both have methods have been used in the past, and there have not been any dq's for someone uploading a 2.35 file.

Once upon a time you could use any screen dimensions you wanted to. It was just for the DVD deliverables that had to be 16:9 or 2.35:1. Has this changed?

I'm not sure about 4:3 being acceptable. That's probably better left to Barry S or Larry R.

Last few fests, though the screen rez max size, is left up to whatever you can fit in the file size limit. But, concerning aspect ratio, might want to let Barry S chime in on this one.
