Hi there,
disclaimer: i'm NOT a shooter, just a producer who recently purchased the HPX500. Just got back from my first shoot. I had purchased an Anton Bauer Wireless Mic mounting kit, thinking that my shooter will be able to assemble it and put it behind the battery, but no such luck. he couldn't figure out how the plate would mount, since there's nothing to screw the plate to.
We ended up velcro-ing, but for the future ... has anyone had any luck mounting a stable wireless plate to the 500?
which model and how does it mount?

Thanks much,
Johannes

i have the universal wireless mount kit ABWMK-KIT
description from AB website
ABWMK-KIT Universal wireless receiver mounting kit. Attach directly to the metal backplate of any Gold Mount to mount any type of wireless receiver. Adjustable to closely fit to camera with any size Anton/Bauer Gold Mount battery on the side or behind the battery.

In order to mount the plate on the HPX500 the same holes for the gold mount are used through the AB mount plate. It is quite a bit different from the betacam mounts where you mount the AB plate first with screws, then screw the the gold mount to the AB mounting plate. Once you realize that, installation is easy. But there are no real instruction included. I talked to AB tech support to finally figure it out.

What's wrong with Velcro? I realize that you've already purchased the mounting plate, but I've been using Velcro for my wireless receivers (Sennheiser and Lectronics) for over 10 year without a single mishap.. I shoot documentaries, by the way, so I'm not talking secure, insulated work situations either..

Velcro is light, cheap & replaceable anywhere - and it doesn't increase the footprint of the camera when sliding it in a case.

velcro is great, no doubt. but it's not flawless. the receiver does sit more securely in the plate. i work with different shooters, and would trust some more than others not to knock a velcro-ed receiver off ... in the plate, it's foolproof.

thx for your input!

Kurt ... so I have to unscrew the gold battery plate to install the wireless plate?

Yes, you take the Gold Mount off, and then align the gold mount over the AB wireless mount plate with the 4 screws going through the gold mount and the wireless mount plate into the Panasonic camera back end.

You do need a Universal Back plate plus the mounting kit. Do you just have the plate that the box attaches to? The Back Plate is a large U shaped plate with a little right angle bend on the side with two screw holes for the box and box plate to screw onto with your fingers.

Looks like I arrived to late to help.

But

I agree with your statement sure velcro works for wireless etc. Most of the time my firestore is just velcroed. But if im not operating the camera I want to be sure its not gonna be knocked off by a camera op so I use the plates as well.
