The Panasonic BT-LH80W is the one to get for the HPX. It has focus in Red, SDI in (option card needed) and the ability to power itself off of the HPX as well.

The BT-LH80W seriously rocks.

Is there any big advantage to the sdi option or is it more of a convenience thing?

The quality of the video signal via sdi is much better than the analog component. It is also a much more secure connection (bnc)

Matt Im not 100% theres such a huge image quality difference viewing the monitor via component or SDI, just to my eyes anyway. But to echo everyone else, the BT-LH80W is a kick ass little monitor. THe focus in red is spot on. The pixel to pixel mapping is an extra little sweetener and then my favourite the waveform monitor. I recently got number 2, so they well impressed me.

Am considering the lh80W (for the HVX) - couple of questions to those who have gotten to use one a bit though:

Is focus in red something I can leave on? As in it doesnt come on and then go off in 30 seconds like the HVX focus assist?

Is focus in red reliable enough to use without pixel to pixel? I'd like to be able to run and gun with this mounted on a zacuto rig and would like to not have to touch the monitor. I wont be using a 35mm adapter if that matters.

For the price this little monitor seems to hit the sweet spot, cant wait to have a waveform monitor that isnt a laptop :)

thanks guys!

Jeff

Yes.

Probably.

But you could leave the big monitor always in pixel-to-pixel and use the cam's LCD for framing, if you wanted to try that.

jdajda the waveform is pretty small on the screen, but totally usable. Personally I think the focus in red enough, but if you have the time theres no reason not to use pixel to pixel. But I wouldnt once rolling. Just not my preference.

Understandable Noel. To my eyes I saw a significant difference. Others might not. YMMV.

Noel and Barry thanks for the answers! Sounds like it will work for what I need. Good thought on running the on board lcd with the lh80w in pixel to pixel mode if need be. Sounds like the focus in red will be enough though. I do wish the waveform could go full screen but from the shots I've seen its definitely big enough to be usable and extremely helpful. THanks!
