I think the other parents were jealous LOL. The camera was sitting there fresh out of the box and I had to put it through it's paces. Even though the tripod I was using could barely handle the load, I still managed to learn a few things.
- Low light capability rocks with the 2/3" chip. I was shooting at F8 with 0 Gain.
- Stationary live events would be much easier with a killer tripod, a Varizoom, and a 7-8" external LCD monitor with hood.
- Focus assist histogram can be a life saver, but might also change the way you frame your shot. I wound up turning it on and off a few times.
- Get a Flange Back adjustment chart and dial in focus at wide and telephoto
- A 2 or 3 camera shoot makes these type of performances so much more dynamic and allows you to cover up those split seconds when you're out of focus.
- 1 Anton Bauer dionic battery will easily last an hour with the LCD on.
- The Audio Technica 4053 hyper is a pretty nice on-camera mic, although I would rather have tapped the board and set up a mic close to the stage if I was doing this as a real gig.
- Zebra at 90 kept my highlights in check as I made sure skin tones were not getting blown out.
