I'm making an instructional guitar video. I've been using my Canon Optura Xi so far for test shots but I'm getting annoyed with it's lack of manual exposure. I don't really need HD so I'm considering buying a used GL2. Just wondering if anyone could say a paragraph or two about the GL2.
Thanks in advance,
Jaz

My favorite thing about the GL2 is the 20X zoom, which probably won't be much of an advantage for you in that situation. :) The 1/8" mic input is annoying, but that's been easily bypassed with a Beachtek adapter. All in all, I've found it to be a solid camera for what I do (mostly event I-MAG and occasional recording). It doesn't get a lot of love here, though, because it doesn't have 24p and because it looks unrepentantly "video." ;)

Thanks for the advice. I'm almost consider the HV20 but I'm getting so tired of not having manual exposure on the Optura. Do you know much about the HV20? I assume I can set to to non HD mode for my video? Not sure I want to mess with HD conversion at this point since my DVD will be in standard mode...

Canon GL2 was my first 3ccd camera. Its a beauty for what you are doing. Especialy for the price. Go for it.

Thanks. Just bought one on ebay for $1200. Hopefully it works!
The other thing I noticed with my Optura is that in the situation I'm shooting in, it's constantly overexposing by almost a full stop and there's no exposure compensation. It's weird that when I adjust the aperture or shutter speed the image looks correct for a second and then it adds gain to increase the exposure.

argggggggggghhhhhhh!
Got the camera today. The genius who shipped it put it in a box along with 2 tripods and the accessories. Nothing was cushioned. Each item was wrapped in a single "target" brand plastic bag and then a bunch of styrofoam packing was put into the case so the camera doesn't work, is scratched and dented including a scratch on the lens (the lens cap was not attached).

Ouch, that sucks dude. You need to complain right away and get your money back. On the bright side, $1200 is too much for a GL2 anyway. You can almost get an original DVX for that much.

If you want to know more about the Canon GL2, you can have a look at the reviews for it:

From what I've seen, the HV20 has a much better picture than a GL2. Go for an HV20, or a DVX if you can afford it.

thanks for the suggestions. Fortunately, the ebayer refunded my money so now I'm looking into a used DVX. Other than the few listed here, anyone know of some with low mileage?
