How would the HPX3000 look with a Pro35 adapter? Is the Pro35 even worth it for this camera? Does the Pro35 flip the image or is it right side up?

it flips and it would look amazing.

Agree with Tim that it would look amazing, though I would consider renting Fujinon Cine Primes, yeah they arent 35mm lenses but they are pretty sweet and would / could be a little easier to work with.
Would be awesome if we could get a comparison together for the purposes of board users to reference, for either 3000 or 500.

I stick with Zeiss lenses so it's either Zeiss DigiPrimes/Zooms or Arri/Zeiss Cine Lenses.

Damn, I was hoping the image would come out right side up so I don't have to deal with it in post or monitoring...... it would be a pain the ass to mount a 52" monitor upside down.
So if the Pro35 doesn't make the image right side up, then for the sake of monitoring, I probably wouldn't use it.

The Pro35 does render the image rightside up.

Okay, thanks.... now I need suggestions on lenses.......
What Zeiss/Arri line would you recommened?
Ultra Primes or Master Primes?
It looks like its either faster lenses (Master) or a wider field of selection (Ultra). I'm leaning more towards the Ultras..... but with the loss of light with the Pro35, would the Masters be better? I guess we could always just put in more light if we use the Ultras......

It will look fantastic without the Pro35 too, from what I'm told. For what it's worth, I asked the same question over on Cinematography.com, and the general consensus was that you'd be better off without it.

the HPX300 is about as sensitive as the HVX200. So.... hmm. if you have the grip i say go with Ultras. if you have light grip package, try the masters.

Fair enough. Though first hand I thought they looked excellent, and on revenge of the sith (though I wont comment on what I thought if the movie).

Now I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to back-up to DVD. I was hoping to keep each card on a one disc.... but with a 64GB card... I can't even get the whole card on a Blu-Ray disc . I was also thinking about backing up to D5 HD tape.... but a 80 minute tape is 360 bucks. So can I some how divide a P2 card over 2 Blu-Ray discs?

Forget blu-ray discs, they're too small, way too slow and they're way too expensive, at sixty cents to $1 per gig. Back up to LTO3. 400GB for about $40. That's 10 cents per gig.
LTO4's twice as fast and it's not that much more, 800GB for about $110, so about 14 cents per gig.

Thanks for the info. You sold me on the HPX3000 after all.
I'm going to use the HPX500 for BTS.... so I should be able to do HPX3000 to 500 comparisions.... although, that won't be until the middle of next year.

Do you think it would be bad move to use a Varicam for OffSpeed Recordings and then trying to match that upto the 3000? I have a ton of slow motion and fast motion shots, so I'm trying to think of the best route there. Varicam or Phantom HD?

Phantom is a sick camera. What exactly are you doing that you need all this gear?

Feature Film, with a theatrical release (hopefully).

I love the Varicam, but then I own one.
Only reason to go phantom is if you need speeds over 60.
I think the varicam and 3000 will mix pretty well, but why rent two camera? only if it makes financial sense.
as for pro 35 adaptors, I love them and use them on my own stuff with ziess primes or S4s. I've shot both fuji and ziess digiprimes and prefer the feel of standards for filmic work. The digis I think are best for certain type shoots where extreme sharpness is important like with commercial product placement, table top stuff and such.
by the way, I'm looking forward to the new pro35 adaptor coming out next month for under 5k by letus. It's the one product I can't wait to buy this year!
Just keep in mind that any 35mm adaptor diffuses the image considerably.
2/3" primes shot wide open will achieve similar depth of field compared to many 35mm lenses.
So it's about the look you are after. The soft/glowing/diffused look or the sharp look. I would think about it on a project by project basis.

The LTO3 support 1080p/50 or 720p/25?
Impressions for "QUANTUM - LTO-3 HH INTERN DRIVE BLACK 400/800GB ULTRA 160 SCSI 5.25IN IN"?

The Depth of Field on 2/3 wide open can't compare to 35mm DOF. The equivalent Field of View of a 2/3 wide lens open to a 1.6 is about the same as a 35mm cine open to 5.6 1/2. I shot a feature last year on digi primes and even wide open I wish I could get shorter DOF.
I personally find the PS with a good set a primes a more cinematic look than digi's wide open. Digi's especially with wide lenses still feel "video" to me.
