I have been searching for picts of 500s. Just ordered mine and wanted to see how different folks are setting up the camera for every day work. Matte boxes, mic setups, onboard monitor, etc. I' m much more visual than just stimulated than just reading. So if you have any pics I would love to see how everyone is setting up their gear.

I wonder if you can go handheld with that rig and still use the MB, FF, and rods. Shoulder mounted I mean.

Hunter- Thanks for the pic. Great footage. How do you like the panasonic monitor?

Shooting with waveform is amazing, its such a no-brainer when it comes to knowing your exposure (and why cant it be built-in to the camera!?). It has a detachable controller and it can be powered from the powertap. If I had a spare chunk of change lying around, I would buy one! (I just rent it for $75 a day when needed) Thanks for the feedback. Enjoy your new camera!

Hunter, who rents you that monitor so cheap? The rental houses I've seen want $200/day!

I live in portland and rent from Picture This (pixthis.com) I actually rented the LCD, the Canon lens, and the Porta-jib. The lens was probably around 20k and the porta-jib (by losmandy) is about 3-5K i think depending on the options you choose. I have learned to work with what equipment I have and if nessisary, I just have the client pay for the equipment I dont have. Its really easy though to buy more stuff that i just "want" or think i "need" but i am learning to be patient.

The portajib is great, we did about 4 full set-ups around Oregon in a day with just me and a buddy (the rest of them are at RipCaswell.tv). Its light, fast and quick to set-up, fits in the trunk and can hold any camera you want.

Professor U:

I dont want to bash zacuto or abelcine tech, but the are the highest price rental houses I have seen, Maybe they want you to bargain with them?

Love the sticks
The matte box on the Hvx has been great. We have had the hvx for 2years and Barry Green recommended the mattebox. Got to meet him at the Vegas bootcamp. And the sticks are form my days in News. The gitzo carbon fiber are way affordable and light. Best invest in my 8 years a freelance has been the sachtler head. I tried a cheap head first and hated. Thankfully it didn't last long.

I love those gitzo sticks, I use them for news now. They are very flexible, you can get low and high quickly and they don't have the problems like the old gitzos. I love being able to do a pan on those low angle shots.

I want Miller sticks... not really ready to go for the carbon fibre stuff you guys are working with but I sure do value being able to get low without the need to sand bad sticks that don't lock at the joint

Most of the stations in Chattanooga have gone to the miller systems. they seem nice. definitely better than just the average entry level set of sticks. I have friend who has the cartoni f101 focus set up and they seem nice. 22lb payload.

And then you come to Japan and theres nothing (and I am not exaggerating at all here), but Vinten as far as the eye can see, for professional use of course. And if you do happen to see a sachtler head here let me know cause its probably the one stolen from me (kidding).

Studio pedestals here in Finland are often refered to simply as "Vintens", beacuse most of them are. (Though there are some other too, like some Sachtlers are getting popularity.)
Cartoni does make really nice sticks & heads too.

Nice looking set up there though. A 500 and a 200 side by side, oh man. *drool*

I have the F101 which is the Focus head with very nice two stage sticks also made by Cartoni... even the bag is beautiful... but I have to say I hate my sticks... not because they are bad, on the contrary they look feel and work great. But I need the other style... that is my fault. I was pushed by the salesman that I bought the HVX from... he gave me such a crazy great deal on the camera ($5,000 when they started giving away 8GB P2's) and this made me succumb under the lies... he said they are not great and why get something like that when I am getting the Focus... blah blah blah... I hate him now... :)

I wonder how much cash I'd have to throw in to step up to the Miller sticks...? I should ask how much people would give me for mine.
