My FCP system has suddenly stopped recognizing my hv-20. when i go to log and capture it tells me there is no device. it worked for the first day or two, now i fear some obscure setting somewhere has changed and i don't know what it is. my current capture settings on fcp are: HDV device: hdv firewire My A1 is working fine with FCP, but i bought the hv-20 as a playback deck and really need to use it. huge thxx.

You know, my HV20 just recently stopped working too. Like you, I tried another camera, in my case a GL1, and that worked but the HV20 didn't work no matter what I did! I even tried reinstalling Quicktime to no avail. I did want to try reinstalling FCS 2 but since the GL1 was working fine even on my old Mac Mini with FCS 1 on there, I think the problem is camera specific.
I'm not sure if we're having the same problem but I'm sending it back to Canon as I believe the firewire port has somehow died or shorted out for some reason. It's the only possible thing as I tried a new firewire cable as well and all the other outputs and recording capabilities work. Only thing not working is the firewire port.
