Does anyone have a suggestion for an external confidence montior that can fly off the camera body itself? I'm looking at the BT-LH80W but it seems a bit oversized for my needs. I know you shouldn't focus off an external LCD but my eyes are so bad now that I don't have a choice and cranking my head back 90 degrees to look at the HPX's lcd isn't an option. How about the RED's lcd? There's no technical info about it on their web site but it looks rugged and the perfect size. I'm open to other options too... just looking to see what others are using.

I disagree with your statement that you can't focus off an external LCD. In many cases, the camera's buildin LCD isn't full HD. I must plug for Nebtek's monitors here. They make pixel accurate displays that come in various sizes (most popular being the ~7") and can run on numerous styles of batteries (your Panasonic camera's small , V-mount, Anton mount, etc.etc.)
I'd also check out Zacuto. They make a nice system to allow two handed grips and use of follow focus / monitor for the HPX. If money is a concern, I can also get you a discount.
I think the best option for you would be a Zacuto LWS for HPX', with the Zacuto Zamerican Large Articulating Arm, and a Nebtek NEB70HDS 7" LCD Display.
Don't forget your hoodman for those sunny days!

Id say the Pana monitor is absolutely your best choice. You describe poor eyesight, but with the "focus in red" function youre never gonna miss with the pana monitor then add a built in waveform.....

I do agree with ncje. However, it's all up to price really
Saturday will be my btlh80w day. Still haven't worked out a handheldable solution for this with the HVX+ Brevis. Of course not for long shots, just for narrative filmmaking. I still think this is possible. hope the top handle holds it! Anton Bauer battery on belt, of course.

SPZ I think a Zacuto rig would do nicely. What type of camera do you have? The Zacuto rig can hold your camera, your monitor, your batteries, and allow you to shouldermount for stability and balance for stability as well.

Well, I have the HVX! Will look at the Zacuto rig, but the Idea I have is that Zacuto gear ends up pretty expensive...And already sold an arm and a leg for the monitor + batteries plus charger (anton bauer)... So big $ not available...
EDIT- Confirmed. 1000+ is too much for me... looking for something for 499 tops...

A Lot of people like the DVRig Pro as well

That sounds more viable. My concern is that the camera handle not coping with the weight of the monitor- I feel it should hold it as long as I keep the battery on a belt, but am not that sure... Anyone with hands on experience with the BTLH80 mounted on the camera?

Hey Chasmo,
have you checked out my monitor. Other than the Panasonic $4890msrp one, I don't know of any 1024x768. Though I think marshall will be coming up with those. but they will be in the $3200 price range. mine starts at $1270 introductory price.
Check out my web site and this thread to see the development of it. :)

Zacuto makes a nice piece to help you support your HVX camera's handle.

I have one and it seems to do the trick with my 35mm adapters, IDX batteries, monitor, Reflecmedia gear, and rods attached to the HVX.

We shoot mostly 1080p30 on our 500. We're looking at getting the bt-lh80w as a monitor. Can we see a 1080p30 signal on that monitor? In the supported formats it is not listed. What will happen if we try and send a 30p signal to it?
What are our options if we want to monitor 30p. It seems kind of strange that the panasonic monitor won't support it.
Is it just that it doesn't display it natively? i.e it still shows 30p but in a 60i stream?

I really want to reiterate here that seriously believe that with your eyesight issue the pana focus in red is going to give you the best results
