When ever I save a file in photoshop with multiple layers, then open up that file by going File-Import-File in After Effects CS3, I get an option as if I would like to import all the layers from photoshop. Yipee.

I just made a file in photoshop, it has about 7 or 8 layers. When I import it in After Effects, the same way I have always done it, It just imports it right way. For some reason, I don't get a dialog box popping up, asking me if I would like to import as one file, or import with all of the layers.

I just get one file. So I drop it into the timeline and its one layer. It won't let me break it up. I even tried hitting option-click on it to open up in a new comp, but that doesn't work.

It IS a .psd file.

Is it an option I have to change, that I accidentally changed?

Thanks,

Anyone had this problem before?

Don't import as layers, import as a composition. All will be there, and you can double click on your photoshop comp at adjust individual layers also. Additionaly, AE will recognize adjustment layers and layer masks, as well as layer attributes like Drop shadow, Bevel, and so on.

I do quite a bit of bouncing between the two, and to be honest, the best was is to merge all the layers in photoshop (NOT FLATTEN), and then bring it in and schoose the merged layer. Save that document with a different file name, just to be safe, and to hold on to your original.

But matt, the prompt box doesn't even pop up.

Ill go Import-file- and then chose the PS file. then bam it goes straight in AE. No dialog box asking me if i want to import as layers or composition.

I don't use AE that often, but I believe there's also a dialog box on the main file import screen that will also allow you to chose how to import towards the bottom of the dialog box.
