Would anybody know what steadicams would hold the Dalsa Origin (II) and the Evolution (about 25 pounds). The only one I'm seeing is the Ultra 2; is that really the only option there?; because it's $66,000.

The Ultra2 is only $60,000. (see, much cheaper!)

The Dalsa is huge. They claim it's been on Steadicam, and I believe it if they say it, but I don't have a clue what it was flown on, it's so massive that it would be very unweidly to operate.

Edit: a bit of reaserach finds that it's been flow (at least) by Dan Coplan (http://www.dancoplan.com/) SOC on his rig.

Yea, gotta love the Dalsa, but mikko (its a dinosaur) compared to we have now (aka Red) :)

Well I would go with the RED but I've yet to find a practical workflow for it.... plus I'm liking the physical characteristics of the Dalsa Evolution..... so I'm using both the Evolution and the Origin (II).

Hi AlienFX,

There a variety of Steadicam and similar products- (Pro, MK-V) out there that will support the weight of the Origin II. A steadicam rig is a some of it's parts, but more so than the sled it'll really going to be about the arm and the operator. Any professional Op with a 35mm feature/TV rig should have springs that'll support the camera.

Mikko is correct. The Origin II has been flow a number of times. I believe the extremely talented Dan Copland was either the first or second person to do so. The prototype Evolution is now down to about 22lbs.

With all due respect Anhar, the Origin II camera is hardly a dinosaur. It is actually one of the youngest digital cinema cameras on the planet. The camera has only been commercially available for the past 10-11 months and it continues to easily makes the best images in the industry. That's not hyperbole. In other words... Images captured with the Origin II camera have more dynamic range and more apparent resolution than ANY other digital cinema camera in the know universe.

I.

Thanks for your comments Illya. Good to hear the weight of the Evolution. 22lbs is great.

Illya I was only joking ! (I was also thinking about the orginal Dalsa which I only have a vauge memory of, not the new MK II, which I have'nt seen) :)

Of course you are correct, the Digital cinema technology has come a long way, and I must admit, the dalsa was there as one of the first proper (ala 35mm sensor) digital cinema cameras.

I think I'm gonna go check this new dalsa Evo II out now!

One thing about Steadicam with the Origin II is that the camera has to be tethered to the store device, which is not something that can be carried around all over the place.

Actually, they now have a flash pack so you don't need to be tied down.
