HQ 1080 24P 1/48 shutter; 0dB / 1.9 f-stop
6 feet from Heritage Guitar.
Not much light at all.
At -3dB it was even cleaner.
It's strange when actually watching the -3dB video, it's so clean it looks like a still
Also, note the field of view and tighter DOF with the main subject at 6 feet. If this was a 1/3" sensor camera,
more of the frame would of been in focus. It kind of gives you an idea that the 1/2" sensors allow a bit
tighter DOF. Remember the f-stop was wide open at 1.9.

Very nice. How much faster is the EX1 vs the HVX when both are at default and 0db gain?
It's good to see some more footy and stills.

I've been busy this week.
But I'm planning on uploading my HS night soccer footage.
We crashed a high school soccer game under the lights.
I was still learning the camera, but most of it looks ok.
We don't own the HVX200 anymore. A camera coworker friend sold it a long time ago. Maybe Phillip Bloom will anwer your question. He owned the HVX200.
I'll be running some EX1 tests soon.

Wow, well I've heard somewhere on these boards that the gain noise is less apparent. This camera may be very 35mm adapter friendly.

After using other 1/3"cameras, it's amazing the detail that this thing sees in low light.
If it looks this great in lower light, just imagine using creative lighting and studio lighting work. it's going to work great.

There's a softness too it that I can't quite put my finger on.

Not to nit pick, but using other 1/3" cameras... The EX1 is a 1/2" sensor, and this is probably why you are amazed at it's low light ability.
I'm not sure how to compare ccd's to cmos, but if they do compare, I would expect more lowlight abilities from a larger sensor. Then again, it has more pixels which kind of counterbalances my previous point. Either way I'd expect some better light sensitivity from a larger sensor camera.
I've really got to look into how CMOS works, because with CCD's the larger the chip the less light needed to expose, YET the more pixels they squeeze on the chip the more that lowlight ability recedes. (kinda like film grain; The smaller the grains the more light (or exposure time) they need)

but dont forget that, this is a cutting edge chip. thoes old "traits" may not apply anymore.

Yes, it's called low light. sharpness and detail are hard for video cameras (or any camera for that matter) to render in low light. Having said that, I'm blown away with the amount of detail in low light.
This looks great viewed on my 24" 1920x100 Dell 2405.
This monitor seems to bring out every bit of good and bad in an image.
I remember wondering if the monitor was somehow adding more information or noise to the signal. The other 1/3" cams did not look that great, showing noise levels and lack of detail.
Well, I am happy to say, it's not the monitor. LOL
The EX1 looks awesome hooked up SDI>HDLINK>DVI input on the 2405.
It even looks good using the Dell's component, just a bit softer with a very small amount of noise using the analog inputs.
Also, thanks to 1/2" sensors the DOF is tighter than 1/3" sensors at the same FOV and given f-stop.
The Fender Start on the couch is softer than the Heritage guitar. The Fender strat guitar was probably about 3 feet behind the Heritage guitar.

EX1 low light. HQ 1080 24P/ 1/48 shutter. Gain = -3dB
A better focused shot compared to my original.

I have the same blue couch as you. What kind of light was shining on your beautiful guitar?

The couch is actually black. The lighting was from a recessed Halogen flood light. I believe 50 watts.

Oh my mistake. It has to be the same model though, or at the very least the same company, haha.
But wow, 50 watts, and -3 gain. Impressive.

Actually, there were a total of 6, 50 watt in a room that was 18x21 ft.
It was during daytime with the blinds closed. But, even to the eye, the room
was very shaded with the spots only highlighting the area they were focused.
From the very first day of turning on the EX1, the first thing a noiticed was its sensitivity.
