Here's a couple shots I took of my children today. Trying out my new off-camera CLS lighting. Had fun...

If anyone is interested, the top one is with a 70-300mm/natural light w/SB-600 off-camera with steno-flo and reflective umbrella for fill, and shot with a Nikon D80. The 2nd one is indoors with same off-camera set-up only using the 50mm 1.8 instead, and he's near a window for ambient.

Indeed! And I'm real happy someone noticed, that was hoped for when I took these.

Thanks! I'm digging the flash, it's just an SB-600 but I'm trying something different from the usual continuous softbox I normally use. Once I get the hang of this I'll try it on clients. The mobility of this flash is amazing. I'm going to get 3 more soon (SB-800) and really go nuts!

Dude, your pictures are incredible. You really have an amazing talent for photography. I'm willing to bet that your son in the second picture could get commercial work... those eyes are flat out crazy (in a good way).

You definitely have me trying some new stuff with my own pictures... like banking the flash off a little bounce or trying a small softbox... that's the kind of stuff I'm talking about when I say that you're doing something that you're not telling us :-)

Your shots have an illusive quality... it's pixy dust or something.

Thanks Mattin (jk), I saw that "mattin" post, it cracked me up...

Anyway, I don't think they're all that great but I really appreciate the kind words, that's real cool of you. I still feel way behind the pack but I'm working every day on it. I guess my shots just do something for you I suppose, and that's awesome! But I always go back after your comments and look them over again... I just don't see it. I mean, I like the shots, but they could be much better. Once I get this flash down and work with some real lenses I hope to achieve my goals.

Again, your words are truly humbling and I hope to live up to them with my work in the future. Wish you were out here in L.A. so we could hang out and shoot together. In fact, I'm looking for a partner, business has picked up like crazy and I'm turning some actors away now... that sucks.
