Hi,

I've been playing around with Red Giant's Colorista a little bit and I've had a really confounding question for anyone who's been familiar with it/used it to a greater extent:

Could you describe your workflow? How do you handle using Colorista to color correct your work?

I've been trying to figure out the best way to go about handling the color correction after an edit is complete, but am currently bamboozled on how to go about it. Colorista seems like an amazing piece of software to use, but I just don't know the best way to properly implement it. Any sort of direction you could point me in would be greatly appreciated.

Also, for the record (and in case it helps with recommendations) I edit in Windows, using mainly Adobe Premiere, but I also just ordered Avid Xpress (I'm about to graduate and wanted to take advantage of my educational discount while i still could.)

So, yeah... any sort of help that anyone can offer me at this point would truly be a saving grace.

You can either import clips of the individual shots that make up a scene and correct them that way, or import the whole thing, and then split it out into separate layers on the timeline. I use adjustment layers for the actual color correction. This lets you have several versions you can switch between quickly to choose the best look. Having the whole thing on the timeline is helpful, because then you can jump back and forth between different shots to make sure the coloring is consistent.

I use colorista and levels to make all the shots look the same maybe some hue/saturation if needed. Then use Magic Bullet Looks on an adjustment layer (or whatever you it in Premiere, clear viseo or something layer over the whole scene for your final color.

Why did you buy avid express if you have premiere? I'm asking because some people don't understand Premiere supports native p2 now.
