I am hoping that you all have not received this post several times. However, each time I hit submit to submit the post I get the response that I am not logged in when I know that I am. So I will try again. I you have already read this post please excuse my submitting it again.

BOTTOM LINE: P2 Mode is Back Up

As I stated to Barry Green, Professor U, and 5Men, I would post what I did to get it back to operating.

I went to Panasonic website for the PC formatting tool to format the SD card. (See Professor U's thread for a direct link to that site.) I erased the earlier download of firmware 4.06 from my computer. Reloaded and unzipped the file again. Loaded it to the SD card and retried. The camera did not work after several tried.

I did the erase steps again to both the computer and the SD card. This time I loaded the "vsi4598g folder", the "pcdriver.win32 folder", and the "private folder -outside of the vsi4598g folder" onto the SD card. (I can't tell you why I put all those files there at one time except I followed my intuition.) The camera begin to start the update procedures as it did the first time when it failed. However, this time it worked.

My sincere thanks to the guys listed above for all their help and support.

NOW I HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS TO ANYONE WITH A FS-100.

1. When you record with the FS - 100 can you view your shots inside of the thumbnails on the camera?
2. Do you have to use the FS - 100's playback to see your shots or can you use the HVX playback feature?
3. When intentional shooting to the 1394 without a card in a slot should the red P2 with a lin through it in the viewfinder remain on?

I appreciate any and all help.

NOW IF YOU WANT TO HEAR ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE WITH PANASONIC'S TECH ABOUT THIS PROBLEM READ THE INFORMATION BELOW.

I called and emailed Panasonic about the above problem. When Panasonic's Tech got back to me I was told that my camera was a "GRAY MARKET ITEM" and that was the reason I was having the problem. I was told that my serial number was not on their list of products. Se he proceeded to give me an address where I could pay to get the camera fix.

My response was: "If I have a GRAY MARKET ITEM it is Panasonic's fault." Further in my statement I informed the Tech that I was told by Tech Support prior to buying my camera that the Company in question was endorsed by them as one of their Premier Authorized Dealers. They has also given me contact person in the company to talk with. I gave the Tech Rep the Name of the person they had given to me who I had bought the camera from. The invoice date; price; address of the store; and the amount I payed for the camera. "The Camera is only 3 months old. I have never used it as of yet."

I concluded my by saying if the Camera Is a Gray Market Item I needed to let DVXuser forum know about this dealer. After all I paid full price for the camera.

Now I get a different story from the Tech. I was asked to wait on line while he check another list of serial numbers. When he returned my camera was on that list. My camera is not a Gray Market Item, and I could get my camera service free. I was also asked not to reveal the Companies name on the forum because the Tech himself had made the mistake; and that the company is a reputable authorized dealer.

However, he concluded that he did not know what was wrong with my camera and that he had not experienced that problem before.

I told him what I had done to sloved the problem just in case he did encounter the problem with someone else "since it does state in the instruction that there could be an error occuring."

Lucky for me the problem was solved before I got his call.

Glad to hear you're up and running again! As to your questions:

1) No.
2) No you can't use the HVX's playback, you have to use the FS-100's menus.
3) Depends on how you've set your 1394 recording options in the "other functions" menu. If you've set it to EXT, I think the red P2 icon goes away.

Thanks B.G.

for responding to the three questions about the FS-100. As stated in my previous post I am a newbie at this. Use to using still cameras. However, your Book "The HVX Book" is very helpful in learning my way around the camera. I will see if I can find something there that will help with question number 3.
After a little more reading this week hopefully I will try shooting something just to get the feel of things. I like doing trial and error with knowledge under my belt to make judgements by. So if things do go wrong I have some place of reference to go to.

Thanks B.G.

for responding to my three questions about the FS100. I will see if there is any setting that I can adjust. AS stated earlier I am a newbie at this. I am use to still camera. However, your book "THe HVX Book" has been very helpful. WHich of your other books would be a good follow-up to this one?
