So the HVX will be shot in the 720/24pn mode and the scene file settings only differ regarding the frame rates (24, 30, 36, 48, 60 & a Timelapse setting in the 720/30p mode). The camera will operate in FILM mode except for the timelapse setting, as I said the framerates will vary from scene to scene, syncro scan will stay at 180d, Gamma will be Cinilike D, Matrix will be Cinilike, Skin Tone will be off.

I am looking for suggestions as far as settings for Detail Level, Vertical Detail Level, Detail Coring, Chroma Level, Chroma Phase, Color Temp, Master Ped, and Iris Level.

The shooting environment will be primarily be bright natural light on snow with action sports (snowmobiling/skiing/snowboarding) as the action subject.

Would much appreciate any suggestions as far as Detail, Color, camera settings go.

Thanks

I have found from my research that I would be best off keeping my Gamma's at 0 and correcting any color issues in post. As far as detail goes it sounds like if you ramp up the levels you are adding noise to the image especially when shooting action.

Any comments....

I too would love some comments...

I personally shoot 30fps 720p for most stuff, or a higher frame rate for the slow mo

gamma cinelike D and a lower master ped. number...like -4 to -7

other than that Im not sure what else to do to...but I like the results

I guess nothing beats just practicing in the field

good luck out there!

Yeah, I'd do some samples. Cinelike V might make sense, or even a news gamma to push some detail into the snow. Your settings will be different if you don't want to correct in post.

Hey everyone interested in shooting winter action sports!

Here is what I found through my research and it may work for you and it may not, please feel free to let me know what you find on this specific topic.

As I said the camera will be shot in 720 24pn to obtain a more "film like" look. The scene files will only differ in frame rate and will be set to the film mode, except for scene file 6 which will be set at 720 30p for shooting timelapses.

As far as the Gamma settings I will roll with them all in the neutral position (0) so that I can have a clean original image that I can correct in post when the "look" is applied to the project. Detail will be turned down to -3 to try and clean up some of the distortion you get on the edges of fast moving subjects. The detail coring will be at +4 to again reduce some of the "noise" in the image. MasterPed will be at -2 to help with the contrast of dark areas while shooting on snow... example shooting skiing in the trees. The Gamma will be set at cini-D as to not effect the natural colors of the shot. Everything else is left at 0 and can be changed specific to the camera operators specific preference.

Hope this helps some people out there.... Check out this link to see some footage of animal action on snow shot with similar settings @ 60fps
