Is a lens support helpful just for storage? JVC HD110U. Please help a newbie

Hi all,

I just purchased my first camcorder with a detachable lens. When storing the camera for few days without use should I detach the lens? If not, then should I get a lens support? Does the lens produce any harmful stress on the lens attachment in the camcorder?

I have a good pelican case with foam insert so the JVC can sit snug within, and I leave the lens on, hardly take it off.
