I am looking for the most film-like look I can get, and am planning to transfer to 35mm film for big screen distribution.
Any suggestions.

You can get to the exact same point either way. . . stripping the duplicate frames from 24P in your editor. . . but you'll save a lot of space on your P2 card with 720PN.
Your filmout will probably look better at 1080, however.

If you must shoot 720, go with 24pN

Just to reinforce what was already said.
1080/24 is best for going to film.
If you have to shoot 720, then there is no reason why you shouldn't shoot 24pn. The only difference between it and 24p is that you get extra record time with the pn modes over the non pn modes.

1080/24pA will give you the best look, provided your editor supports editing 1080/24pA footage. Most do, but I don't think Avid does yet.

There is one reason, and that's if you're using a FireStore. You can't use 720/24pN in-camera with the FireStore, but you can set the FireStore to simulate it (and you should).

Hi,
Two questions.
1. It is really no different in quality between 24p and 24pN at 720?
2. I dont understand the real differences between 1080/24p (over 60i) and 1080/24p (over 60p), which one get better cinma look? Which one get better image quality?
Thanks

The quality is the same. The difference is that the duplicate frames are stripped out of the native recording because it bypasses NTSC processing.

The end result is the same with the difference being that in 60i, the codec being used to embody the 1080 24p footage is an interlaced codec. This is the only option for DVCPro HD at 1080 resolution. In the final output, however, the pulldown can be removed and the footage can be assembled as 24p (progressive) video.
