I've always wanted a dvx 100, but i see i can get a ha1 new from amazon for three grand after rebate, so I'm torn. would i be foolish to get a sd camera if i could swing going hd? the eye piece on the ha1 look really odd. Anyone have this camera and can give me some feedback? I need to make a decision fairly quickly.

What are you going to use it for?
And if the choice is a DVX with a nice tripod and maybe a shotgun over an A1 with nothing, well the choice is clear.

i plan on shooting docs. it's the ole sd vs hd for 600 more thing. I know both are excelent cams. and i really like panasonic. it's just money right? have you ever handled an ha1? oddly, i'm concerned about the eypiece.

Yeah the EVF eye piece is a little different. Ive never had a problem with it. If thats your only concern then just go to retailer and see if it suits.

thanks nc. I live in a small town that doesn't have a single video reseller. go figure. do you own the ha1? does the evf tilt up. in all the product pics i've ever seen, it doesn't appear to do that, and i like that when shooting. also really interested in your opinion on whether i should go with it, or just get the 100b. thanks.

The evf does the full range of tilt, but the piece of rubber that comes with it isn't very good at blocking out light. You can buy a Sony rubber eye piece (for the FX1 I think) for about $35 and just put it over it.

thanks, because it looked locked. glad to hear it. where i live, i can't get a single cam in my hands, so i'm going with the experience of users here. would it be the better purchase over the 100b? i am smitten with that cam, but 600 bones isn't a big stretch, so I want to make the right choice for the two plus years of use. and could you post a link to that eye piece. that would be interesting to see. thanks.

If you can stretch it the A1 is definitely a better value for your money. Here's the link to buy the eye piece

for docs. , you could go with dvx or the a1. But the sony z1u and the sony fx1
are better for shooting docs. because They give a better dv image.

thanks jd. my understanding on the zu1 is it doesn't do true 24p, and i know I want that. I'm guessing you're still shooting with a 100b. If so, when and what HD cam do you plan to move to? and if you have, which one do you own?
