We went to a studio who had Procoder and tried transcoding into different formats with major quality loss. Are we doing something wrong?
Is it possible to transcode the files into a useable format in Avid?
Is it possible to transcode the files into a useable format in Final Cut?

Do you know how to transcode the file into a format that maintains the quality for use in either of these systems?

Basically we don't want to use Edius as the studio time is unavailable and we have a workstation at our home with Final Cut and Avid. We are also unfamiliar with Edius and know Avid and Final Cut. Trouble is what we have shot already was recorder using the Edius codec. Please help!! We are in shooting in Taiwan so the communication is really making things difficult. Thanks.

There's always lossless codecs, but you're going to take up a LOT of space with them.

Edius, in my opinion, is the easiest editor to learn to use. It works much like Premiere. Don't let it intimidate you.

Depending on the size of your project, you could stay "native" by saving your project (from Edius) in MXF format back on the P2.
(the simplest, the best, the fastest)

If not possible, you could stick to the native codec, DVCproHD, in your multi-editing chain.
Edius relies on QT with their codec on the PC platform, so, export your Edius project to QT/DVCproHD and import your QT/DVCproHD into FCP.

You can't output QT/DVCProHD on the PC, not with Edius or any other software.

What I would do is use Edius' "Print to P2" feature to output a normal P2/MXF folder structure. You can ingest that on any P2-supporting editor, on both PCs and Macs.
