Question about SD

Im purchasing an HVX200 soon with two 16MB cards. Here's what I'd like to know. In SD mode, when using DV tapes can you

1) record in any frame rate combination?

2) how does 16:9 translate using DV tapes?

Also...

and i know this is a basic question...but what is the huge fuss over filming 720p? It seems to be a big factor with most of you guys so i was curious.

For me and I suspect others, 720p and pNative produces the best bang for your buck in image and in conserving p2 card space.

It isn't a "huge fuss," but a preference that I like and so do my clients.

the variable framerates are only via 720p modes. 16x9 translates to tape as anamorphic

Yeah, 16x9 on DV will have the same 720x480 pixels but have a pixel aspect ratio of about 1.21 instead of .9 in fullframe.

Also, remeber you can shoot offspeed slomo and fastmotion on 720pn then Dub it to DV tape and have the off speed effects on a Mini DV tape in the field.
